Providing you are able bodied obviously

OP posts:
rightknockered · 27/10/2017 20:46

My problem is that I'm physically capable of a lot of things, and all of those things are more fun than cleaning

KitKat1985 · 27/10/2017 20:46

Fucking impossible here. I clean, then the 3 year old and (nearly) 1 year old will have trod rice krispies into the carpet, knocked a drink over, and upended 3 boxes of toys 30 seconds later.

Teddy1970 · 27/10/2017 20:47

Not read all the replies but if you live on your own, then yes, it's piss easy...got kids? No chance!

Sara107 · 27/10/2017 20:50

Not easy. I can keep up with the cooking, shopping, laundry, caring for sick cat and looking after my child. I work, do the garden and about 80% of the general admin ( utility bills, insurance, banking etc). I have a very small amount of time that is for me (1 excercise session per week). I don't have much time left over, and I'm generally too tired to feel much like scrubbing the lavatory then. I recently got a cleaner, and it is amazing - although she hasn't got further than the kitchen yet as she is having to clear space as she goes!!!

SpinnerDryer · 27/10/2017 20:50

No.

LonginesPrime · 27/10/2017 20:50

YY to the Victorian house thing. Why are there so many nooks and/or crannies???

Laineymc7 · 27/10/2017 20:51

Yes it was when I was working full time and single. It was immaculate. Now it's a disaster. It's cleanish but turned upside down with a 9 month old and a 2 year. I struggle now. It really depends on circumstances.

MargotLovedTom1 · 27/10/2017 20:51

It's the dog! The incredible never-stops-moulting dog. I hoover, then two minutes later he bumbles along, has a shake and I watch all the hair gently fall to the floor and I just think faaaaarking hell.

Ollivander84 · 27/10/2017 20:53

Depends whether you enjoy it or not. If it's a glorious dry day like today and my choices were clean or go and ride the horse.. yeah, the horse won!
Might hoover tomorrow though Grin
My house isn't disgusting, I would happily let people in but there's stuff about and it's messy. This is just taken now

To think it is easy to keep your home clean?

You do realise this is AIBU?, OP? So people will answer you whether they like the question or not. That’s kind of the point of AIBU ? and especially its question mark

BewareOfTheToddler · 27/10/2017 20:55

Don't know what you're all on about. It's a piece of cake to work full-time, keep fit, tame a toddler, live with a cat, keep a clean home, batch cook and have wholesome hobbies. Isn't it? I find it perfectly manageable as long as I don't sleep or spend time bullshitting on Mumsnet

OP, maybe you could let the rest of us know where we're all going wrong?!

Rheged · 27/10/2017 20:56

I’m a single parent of 2 DCs and work full time. I personally don’t find it particularly hard to keep things clean. I’m naturally tidy anyway and have a cleaning routine that I stick to. Don’t get me wrong, there are lots of things I struggle with but cleaning isn’t one of them.

Vanillamanilla1 · 27/10/2017 20:57

I leave my house 7.05am and dont get home until 6.30pm
MON - fri
My house is spotless , my washing is done and my ironing is done too
My DP empties the bins on a Friday for the Binmen and cook dinners every night but he DOSEN'T actually do any housework
And no I don't spend ALL weekend doing it either
10 mins every evening and SATURDAY mornings is all it needs

Bbbbbbbb2017 · 27/10/2017 20:58

I have an asd nearly 3 year old and 1 year old and I'm a very lone parent. No sodding chance

Mum2jenny · 27/10/2017 20:58

More to life than cleaning your house, I actually like spiders and feel they are good companions.

RMC123 · 27/10/2017 20:58

* Just asking, if people don't like the answer please feel free not to answer*

So why ask the flipping question if you only want people who give the answer you want?
I have a full time job, 4 kids ( 3 teenagers) a husband who works away, animals, an elderly relative to pop in on most days, plus an online business.
So no keeping my house tidy is practically impossible. Obviously I am vastly inferior.

GiveMeTheTeaAndNobodyGetsHurt · 27/10/2017 20:58

I'm convinced that it would be easy to keep my house clean if it were organised, and everything had a place. Unfortunately, that bit is proving to be near-impossible Confused

rollingonariver · 27/10/2017 20:59

People really react badly when they don’t like a question.
I’d say it’s not ‘easy’ I have a one year old but a fairly small space and I’m at home all day as I’m not working. My flat is pretty much always tidy. I hoover, dust and polish, clean the bathroom (not deep clean just wipe over) and do dishes etc every day BUT I spend most of my day walking round the house picking up after DD.
If I were working full time, looking after a young baby and had a bigger space I think I’d have a meltdown! Definitely wouldn’t be tidy most of the time!

Ohwell14 · 27/10/2017 20:59

I do enjoy it so I guess that is my problem

OP posts:
BewareOfTheToddler · 27/10/2017 21:00

To be fair, I find keeping things vaguely tidy and using a lot of anti-bacterial wipes goes a long way and only inviting round short-sighted people who don't notice dust

Itsanicehotel · 27/10/2017 21:01

Well I can. But then I live by myself in a small 1 bed flat and I’m retired. Not so easy when you work and have kids.

Doramaybe · 27/10/2017 21:01

I love this. So against the grain of being oh so fkn perfect all the time. Life is the reality.

Any men on this thread at all?

Just make sure those who visit call ahead. Then if you have one, get him to run around the LR and the downstairs loo and all is fine. What the eye doesn't see (upstairs or in the kitchen), the heart won't grieve over. So says Mum!

Perfection is never achieved by anyone. And most people like a lived in house too. Not afraid to enter.

BewareOfTheToddler · 27/10/2017 21:02

Also the "blitz" rule. I tidy up either before we go out or before nap time, and then again at the end of the day. In between, I embrace the mess unless it's a trip hazard. Otherwise, I would spend my entire life putting Duplo back in boxes - it's like Tidying Creep basically, if rather play with Duplo

AnaWinter · 27/10/2017 21:04

I spend about 8 hours a week cleaning and I have a cleaner for two days a week. Most of the time my house is a mess thanks to my children. My husband who also cleans and I despair.

Caprinihahahaha · 27/10/2017 21:05

I have a huge house and I find it easy to keep clean. I just pay the cleaners
