Why don't people take their rubbish when they leave the cinema?

Just that really. It’s so lazy and annoying. Especially when they have kids with them!! I know people are paid to tidy up but they shouldn’t have to pick your rubbish off the floor because you can’t be bothered Angry

Most of the ones I've been to you are told to leave it. They would always have to sweep up as people will have dropped some popcorn.

I think you are overreacting.

AlexanderHamilton · 27/10/2017 17:12

We go to a Vue. You are asked to leave it behind.

Laiste · 27/10/2017 17:31

They'd have to clean after each show even if the majority carried their cups out.

I wouldn't sit luzzing stuff left and right, but everyone who has popcorn or nachos will accidentally drop a bit surely. You're eating in the dark. Kids are eating. I drop stuff down me a bit at home when i'm sitting nibbling in front of a film - when you stand up in the cinema it goes on the floor.

You'd get trampled grovelling round the floor trying to pick all that up when the lights go up! Grin

To be honest I find rubbish in a cinema an order of magnitude less annoying then the fuckers who can't keep quiet during the actual film

mydogisthebest · 27/10/2017 18:06

I go to either Odeon or Cineworld and they definitely do not tell you to leave your rubbish behind. Needless to say though just about everyone does. Me and DH take our rubbish out to the bins walking past and through everyone else's rubbish.

Don't most people leave their rubbish everywhere though? On the beach, in the park, on the bus, train or tube. It's disgusting.

Don't get me started on the mess left behind after a music festival. I live very close to a park where a big festival is held every year and the rubbish left behind is unbelievable - tents left up, sleeping bags, chairs, tables even items of clothing left strewn around

MaverickSnoopy · 27/10/2017 18:07

We have a Vue but no big signs saying to leave it. I went the other week with DD looking for a bin everywhere and couldnt find one. I asked an attendant and he just shrugged his shoulders and said "why don't you just leave it, everyone else does?" and I said "because I'm teaching my daughter to clear up after herself". He literally shrugged again and walked off. So perhaps that is their protocol but he didn't clarify and there were definitely no signs or announcements.

I find it quite disrespectful to staff. I think it's a sad reflection on our society that we can't be trusted to recycle.

HeyManIJustWantSomeMuesli · 27/10/2017 18:20

The Vue and Odeon I’ve been in recently both ask you to leave your rubbish behind so they can recycle it. In which case it’s much better to be left on the floor than the seats.

RobotGoat · 27/10/2017 18:20

Our Vue doesn't have bins, and there are signs telling you to leave your rubbish. I've always lived near Vue cinemas where that's the rule, so if I've ever gone elsewhere I've assumed it's the case across all cinemas. Maybe that's what other people are doing as well. I certainly don't leave my rubbish out anywhere else, so I think it's a bit of a leap to assume everyone doing it is a lazy, disgusting litterbug in general.

MuseumOfCurry · 27/10/2017 18:25

I have mixed feelings about this.

On the one hand, in principle I agree that people should clean up after themselves; it's an issue of decency and respect.

On the other hand, the cinema has become so extortionate that I object to them making any demands whatsoever on their customers, e.g. that they dispose of their £12 buckets of popcorn or £8 drinks.

MrsKCastle · 27/10/2017 18:30

The local cinema here doesn't have bins. I'm the past I have walked out, rubbish in hand, then found myself with nowhere to put it. So now I leave it.

TitusPullo · 27/10/2017 18:33

Vue here too, definitely no bins and you are asked to leave it behind for recycling.

TheEmpressWears · 27/10/2017 18:34

Well I'm certainly not a lazy slob! I have never littered outside.

In the cinema however, after having paid 9.50 euro for myself, just to accompany DC2 to see legoninja go, and then get the bus home, yes, I leave a few wrappers on the floor knowing that the cinema will be cleaned.

MyHandsAreHighMyFeetAreLow · 27/10/2017 18:42

These are the sort of signs our Vue has.

Why don't people take their rubbish when they leave the cinema?
gigi556 · 27/10/2017 18:45

Really? You are being very unreasonable. You are supposed to leave it!

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 27/10/2017 19:00

You are supposed to leave it!

Depending on the cinema.
I went to the cinema today. At the end of the film there was an employee standing by the door with a bin bag.
In the other cinema in town there are bins outside each screen.
That is Empire and Cineworld.

PolkaDottyRose · 27/10/2017 19:03

I have never seen a bin at the cinema we go to Hmm

Loubilou09 · 27/10/2017 19:06

How odd - we go to the cinema every week and rotate around 3 different cinemas - 2 Vues and 1 cineworld. Not a sign anywhere stating they will collect rubbish, no little ads popping up either - just clearly marked bins outside smc a lot of lazy fuckers/slobs that ignore all that and walk out anyway!
