leaving washing machine on all day?

is it dangerous yes or no? housemate did a wash that finished at 11am and i’ve just discovered the machine ( 12 hours later ) has been turned on and not emptied all day. is this a hazard or no as i know sometimes leaving the machine on for ages can cause it to start smoking. Just asking as they always leave hob on etc and do this often and i’m hoping this isn’t another safety hazard i have to start worrying about or am i just being paranoid?

Na don’t worry, if your house burns down then you can just get another one Grin

What is it that makes the spin cycle dangerous?

Briette · 27/10/2017 00:41

They obviously left it when it was still running or they'd have been able to turn it off before going out, so I'd say that's a risky. Also, if you don't have soundproofed walls your neighbours may love you less for leaving a beeping machine going all day long.

You'd think it would give up after a bit, sigh and go to sleep. Not carry on shouting like that. Bit needy.

So what’s the timer for then?

The machine is fine if the cycle is finished (but the clothes will probably smell gross!). The risk of fire is the mechanism, which means it’s only a risk when actually washing clothes. I’d go mad at her for leaving it washing and going out though - a family friends ground floor was gutted by fire when they went to bed with their machine on!
