Teen guests and internet/Netflix

I have two nephews coming to stay without their parents. Should I put parental controls on the wifi? Are there other steps I should take re internet or Netflix?
They are age 14 and 15.
Their parents have no restrictions at home, but I feel uncomfortable with them perhaps accessing violent porn etc out of curiosity or by accident.
WIBU to do nothing, as is the case at their home?

If they have no restrictions at home then I don't think you should put restrictions on at yours

I would say if there parents dont do it then there is no need for you to - the parents clearly trust them to use the internet safely.

Why are they going to access violent porn by accident? Do you ever accidentally come across it?

They'll probably have their own Netflix log ins, mobile data etc. and Netflix doesn't really have parental controls.

I seriously doubt they'll be hell bent on accessing porn just because they are away from home.

They'll probably spend their free time on line with their friends and gaming, but I think loads of internet providers block adult stuff already, so you should be fine.

I don't want pornography in my home so I take the steps I can to prevent that, such as keeping on my ISP's block. You're well within your rights to do the same, whoever your guests are.

(And how do you know that it isn't blocked at home? The parents may well do so on the quiet, or be unknowingly on an opt-in scheme for adult content.)

Unless you have unlimited wifi I'd base your concern on their data use age. .

The restrictions are on the devices, not the wifi, so you don't need to do anything.

Yes do check if your plan includes a data limit. If it does, depending on how long they are staying you might have to ask them not to stream TV shows etc as you can end up with a huge bill.

My home wifi has some kind age restriction setting which I have no idea how to remove. It's so strict I can't even go on online dating sites!

Restrictions are available from most (all?) internet service providers. I log onto their website to change mine - I imagine that's the same in most cases. This is separate to adding restrictions to devices - which is easier for some devices than others.

I view it that it's their parents decision as to what restrictions to put on my child-guest's devices. But mine as to what I allowed to be viewed on the wifi I pay for.

Oh right, sorry, that must be a recent change, I'm not living in the UK any more. Seems a bit strange to me but anyway. Good to know.

Thanks everyone. I asked parents directly and they said they don't bother as they'll just get around any parental controls if they want to.
We have unlimited wifi so not worried about that.

I'd like to leave it as no controls as I don't want tame things being blocked unnecessarily.

Erm, Netflix does have parental controls. I have to type a 4 digit code in to watch 18 certificate movies. It took a few seconds to set up, that's all.
