I hate answering the door at the best of times, even more so at night....so spend a few weeks prior to Halloween getting a bit stressed. The local police have just put a poster on their website to print and stick on your door saying you dont want trick or treaters, and most of the comments are about how its just an invitation to have a brick or egg thrown at your window. Now i feel so much better (NOT!!!)

not to mention we now have a 10 month old dog who barks really loud when anyone knocks, and will take a good while to calm down after so that is pretty annoying for the neighbours. (he stops with a treat bribe but he can only have so many of those)

I know I'm probably being a grumpy mare, but would you really throw bricks at someones house because we dont want to answer? dh works nights so I'll be on my own.

at a push, wibu to say no trick or treaters after dark or a certain time?

143?!!! I'd be losing my shit at 43, let alone 143!

I just find it all too much and luckily where I live there isn't a chance for loads of randoms to turn up. I'm OK with little ones out with their parents but TBH once kids are old enough to go out on their own, that's when I don't want to know.

143? Fucking hell I thought we were bad with 50 odd!

Last year I took the kids out to tea at a local carvery. By the time we got home we'd missed most of the callers and literally had one or two knock. I'm planning on doing the same this year, though with it being half term here next week, I think we will have tiny ones calling early.

I kid you not.143...
Rewind to five years orevious when we started it was 10-15.following year doubled as people start "pack hunt"(big groups/partys coming out together) then escalated.was 80 one but last year.that was my limit really

In my area you now need to be over 18 at the moment to buy eggs and flower due to halloween anti aocial behaviour.

We lived in the states when my D.C. were kids and we all absolutely adore Halloween. It's always been our favourite holiday. It just about dressing up, eating some sweets and having fun. It used to be a huge community event where we lived. It was a fun way to meet everybody. We used to sit in the front drive drinking wine and handing out sweets.

You left your front door lights off if you didn't want to join in.

I live in a town in the U.K. but we have never had any trick or treaters call if our front door light is out. I would find it irritating if people did call.

YANBU

I loath halloween. We just shut curtains, turn off lights downstairs and make it look like we are not home. And if anyone does knock we would ignore - but up till now never had to.

But if putting an official sticker up was an option I'd do it in a heartbeat. I don't think it would invite the trouble you mention (certainly wouldn't here so maybe depends on area/neighnours)

It totally depends on area/neighbours. Hoping our new house won’t have the same problems!
