Christian leaflets through doors

Yes or no?

Personally I don't think they do any harm but I know others think otherwise.
Is it OK for someone to push a leaflet through your door with a brief Gospel message, with an email address for support and prayer if you want it?
Pushy or caring?

I get really fed up with religious people, salespeople, and charity collectors going door-to-door. Everyone know religions exists; if they're interested they will go out and find a place to worship that suits them. Ditto for charities; people know they exist and will give to groups they support, don't bother them at home. Salespeople always seem dodgy when they rely on random door knocking. Just stop.

I won't buy from or give to anyone who knocks on my door unsolicited.

InDubiousBattle · 23/10/2017 17:24

Pushy or caring

Neither, just faintly irritating. They go into the recycling along with all of the rest of the crap that comes through my door daily.

BahHumbygge · 23/10/2017 17:24

Yes, pulped forests clearcut for unsolicited leaflets offends me a lot. "God", however you conceptualise the concept, is far more likely to be found in the ineffable wonderment of standing complex forest ecosystems than words on a piece of dead tree languishing in someone's recycle bin. Yes modern human societies need paper to function, eg solicitors' letters, phone bills, enjoyable novels etc etc. Advertising flyers, whether for God or Pizza, are a pointless waste of perfectly good trees.

InDubiousBattle · 23/10/2017 17:25

Same here Beware, I will never donate/buy from/sign up/engage in debate with anyone who comes knocking!

TittyGolightly · 23/10/2017 17:27

If I catch them I swap their shitty booklet/leaflet for a copy of the new scientist. Grin

SPARKS17 · 23/10/2017 17:29

I'm an atheist and have no interest in unsolicited religious material, so yes it would piss me off. But then after 3 visits from Jehovah Witnesses in 3 weeks I called their Head Office and asked them to remove us from their visitation schedule, which they duly did! So you could say my tolerance for religious material is low.

khajiit13 · 23/10/2017 17:31

I think it's a waste. Goes with the rest of the junk mail

QueenDaisy · 23/10/2017 17:39

I don't want any kind of leaflet through my letterbox. I have a sign on my letterbox, no leaflets/menus etc, still get some. Why anyone would think I'd buy anything from a leaflet through my letterbox is beyond me, they go straight in the re-cycle bin & if I catch anyone posting one, I go out & give them it back 🙂

Glumglowworm · 23/10/2017 17:48

No more irritating than the takeaway menus and window sales ads

Less irritating than political bollocks at election time

snorkmaiden68 · 23/10/2017 17:57

Don't mind leaflets as everything just goes straight into recycling. In fact I might make a front door notice that says 'Please do not put your leaflets through this door. Save my time and just chuck it in the recycling box yourself ' lol. Hate the door knockers, I am always busy and they are just a nuisance

It's pushy and 99% of the time they get thrown in the bin. Infact I open the door as soon as I see one and throw it in recycling outside my house - even better if the pushy person who has put said junk mail through letter box sees me throw it away and knows that I don't appreciate religious material making it's way into my hall unless I specifically ask for it.

Sparklesocks · 23/10/2017 20:25

I throw 99% leaflets I get in the recycling bin, regardless of content.

Although once we had a group of Christians knock round - they seemed to be from a strange offshoot of the main church, I don't think they were above board!

Anyway they asked if I'd like them to come round and do a prayer circle in my house (no thank you) or attend one of their services (no thank you) - they kept asking me lots of personal questions until I ushered them away but they did ask who I lived with, and I told them my DP. Convo went like this:

Me: oh yes, it's just me and my partner - anyway thank you goodbye
Them: oh your partner?
Me: yes...goodbye
Them: are you married?
Me: nope!! Just live together. Bye then...closing door

Oddly a few days later I got a leaflet through the door saying I was 'living in sin' and would 'burn in the fires of hell for eternity' unless I repented and found god. Weirdly enough, I didn't sign up..

So know I don't mind leaflets usually, depends how judgemental they want are about how I live Grin

TDHManchester · 23/10/2017 20:40

Not bothered. Not bothered about callers either. Manners cost nothing and if i have time i have a chat, if i dont i tell them and wish them a good day.

DorisDangleberry · 23/10/2017 20:55

Why not combine the religious leaflets with pizza leaflets?

Cheesus, our grate lord

ForalltheSaints · 23/10/2017 21:00

If it is a leaflet only and no door knocking, no problem for me.

BertrandRussell · 23/10/2017 21:02

All leaflets of any type annoy me because I care about the environment.

Iloveanimals · 23/10/2017 21:09

I know. Most leaflets whatever they are end up in a recycle bin anyway.

wrenika · 23/10/2017 21:12

It's intrusive and a waste of time, but equally, I wouldn't get het up about it. We'd probably have a laugh over it and chuck it in the bin. I'd much rather have it through the door than have someone knocking, although I am always gobsmacked at the nerve of people who think they can/should come around bothering people in their homes with religious nonsense. If I want fiction, I'll pick up my kindle.

PickAChew · 23/10/2017 21:14

A complete waste of paper and ink.

TooManyPaws · 23/10/2017 21:20

The pentagram on the door glass and the "Powered by Witchcraft" on the back of the car tends to keep them away but I do find it very rude to push your religious beliefs on people. Maybe I should go round to their house and ask them if they've found the Lord Curnonnos yet.

And let's face it, it's only one religion and its weirder offshoots. The local mosque doesn't seem keen to win my allegiance, nor does the synagogue or gurdwara; the Hindus and Buddhists have never popped by - not even the Satanists.

cocopops88 · 23/10/2017 21:30

As one of my favourite sayings...
Religion is like a penis.. fine to have but unacceptable to shove in someone's face.
Leaflets irritate me if I wanted religion i would find it.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/10/2017 21:37

My very very Christian Grandfather (Prodestant) told me when I was maybe 5-6yo that a boy in his class ripped up a Bible and died as a direct result.

So I cannot bring myself to just rip them up but I do discretely recycle them.

I know, unsubtle brainwashing of a small child but he said what he thought was right ?

Hellywelly10 · 23/10/2017 21:43

I dont like evangelicalism. Junk mail is annoying. More annoying is the ones that knock at the door and this new wave of shouting about God loudspeakers in public spaces, it's antisocial. Don't get me started on the ones that approach you on the street.

TheProdigalRhubarb · 23/10/2017 21:47

I was once posting business cards through letterboxes when setting up a new business as a holiday cat feeder. One man immediately opened his door and angrily thrust the card back at me, shouting “I don’t believe in cats!”

I dread to think what he’d say to a pusher of religious services.
