Gah - I've really done it this time.

I've been chatting to a bloke I met on OLD, but haven't actually met him yet. But we'd planned to meet up on Sunday. We were chatting last night, I'd partaken in a bit too much wine and suggested he take me as his plus one to a wedding reception he's going to on Saturday. I immediately then said thats a really stupid idea - but he was keen, suggested we test the waters by meeting up tonight (kids are going to their dads so I can).

Oh crumbs, I can't actually go to a wedding reception of people I've never met, with someone I don't know can I? WIBU to do so? And has anyone got any stories of silly drunken messages to make me feel better?

Because andrew I have bullets like nipples and it might not be appropriate to be all nipply at a wedding reception.

GO for it! It could be fun. Just see it as a cheap evening out having fun and meeting a load of new people. He'll probably be glad of the company/plus one and you can agree beforehand what you'll say to relatives who ask who you are/if you're together etc. It's pretty full on for one of your first dates together but I would see it as a laugh and a challenge!

Grin I wonder what kind of gun you'd use those in!

Update????

RainyDayBear · 20/10/2017 17:45

Do it! You can have a laugh about how you suggested it tipsily, but I’d see it as a good sign that he’s not hiding anything in taking you somewhere his friends will be. Okay, a bit full on as a first date but could be fun!

Do it do it do it! I met my DH online - and took him to a colleague's wedding (well, the evening do anyway) for our first proper date!

chitofftheshovel · 20/10/2017 18:35

keepserving no update, I'm waiting for him to finish at the gym, and then THE DATE. I've never really been on a date before so I'm a bit jittery. Can't have any Dutch courage cos I have to drive - he any has a motorbike at the mo.

eleanor did your colleague find it odd that you took someone you didn't know to it? I guess that's my concern - that is if he still wants me to go after tonight!

Date went really well. He was interesting and interested and we laughed a lot. But we mutually decided that I'm not going to go to the wedding. Various reasons but the right decision for us. So panic over. Thanks everyone for your stories and encouragement.
