"Your home should always be spotless because you never know who is going to knock at the door." Said to me by a friend after I declined hosting a get together at my house with some mutual friends, as I said my house is quite messy. I have 4 children and I'm a single parent (never get a break as ex is absent and I have no family,) baby is going through a phase of screaming blue murder if not being held, but apparently "there are no excuses."

You don't have to explain anything to her.
Just rase an eyebrow and live your own life.

Also, if a friend knocks on my door, they are ALWAYS coming to see me (or one of my family) and not to inspect my house. The only time you should be aiming fo 'spotless' or 'immaculate' is if you are trying to sell.

It is nonsense. Just a really strange thing to say.

Aquamarine1029 · 20/10/2017 00:20

Tell her she is MORE than welcome to come over and tidy.

whathaveiforgottentoday · 20/10/2017 00:20

Tell her she's welcome to come round and hoover, do the washing up if it so bothers her. Otherwise tell her to stick her opinions up her arse where they belong.

CoughLaughFart · 20/10/2017 00:24

Next time you go around to her house, have a shit and hide it under the floorboards.

MrsOverTheRoad · 20/10/2017 00:28

She sounds like a bit of a tit OP. Why bother with "friends" like that.? She's not nice to say that to you...and she's not got a lot of empathy obviously!

Madbum · 20/10/2017 00:35

Stop explaining yourself, you owe her nothing and it will only give her the impression that she’s right and allowed to judge you and comment on your house keeping.
She’s not your friend she’s a spiteful twat who likes to make people feel inadequate, probably because she herself feels inadequate for some reason. Bin her off.

DiegoMadonna · 20/10/2017 00:38

I'm trying to think of a possible situation where someone unexpectedly knocks at my door and it matters that my house isn't spotless.

Nope, can't think of any.

TheMaddHugger · 20/10/2017 00:41

A real friend would offer to Help you. Not criticize you

((((((((Hugs)))))

intergalacticbrexitdisco · 20/10/2017 00:42

What a load of bollocks. Sleep comes first, once that's up and running, food comes second. Then any other stuff can join the bottom of the list.

Always spotless indeed!

intergalacticbrexitdisco · 20/10/2017 00:43

Oh, and whoever knocks at the door can bugger off, unless it's Amazon Now with nappies, milk and a bloody big bar of dairy milk...

oldlaundbooth · 20/10/2017 02:13

She can host, then.
