Is my gp being unreasonable

I want my 10 year old protected from flu.
Younger child is as vaccinated at school. DH and I are through work.
10 year old can't as not in the school programme age in our area.
I am happy to pay but can't access it locally. GP said it's an annoying postcode lottery but can't help.

It does vary on area. We were in a pilot scheme area, so my eldest two had it last year administered at school (they were yr5 and yr6). Not heard anything this year and having looked into it, it seems that schools that were pilot schools should continue to have it offered to all children.

I did contact a local private hospital about a flu jab for my 2 year old last year (was born after the 31/8 cut-off) and they quoted me around £30. They didn't offer the nasal spray so it was an injection.

Boots do the flu jab but charge for it

I got ds a private flu vaccine when be was 18 months and not the age they vaccinated for. I just had to find a private gp to do it, which was fine just meant a bit of a drive. Not expensive. Chemists and the like won't do under 16s.

Are we expecting a massive flu epidemic this winter? I have never seen so much talk about flu vaccines before. It would never occur to me to get DD or myself vaccinated against flu. OH is 65 and therefore qualifies for the vaccine.

Yes this year is expected to be a very serious strain.
Yes some parts of England are vaccinating all primary kids - hence why I feel it's unfair. You can't just walk into a pharmacy and pay for it as they can't give it to under 16 or in some cases 18!

As Australia endures one of its worst flu seasons in more than a decade, questions are being raised about how the public can be better prepared and what can be done to protect the most vulnerable.

At least 170,000 influenza cases have been confirmed this season, almost two-and-a-half times more than in 2016. The federal health department logged 72 flu-related deaths by Thursday, including that of eight-year-old Rosie Andersen in Melbourne. Experts say Australia is on track for a record number of confirmed cases.

I work in a gp surgery as a receptionist we are given a list of all groups who are eligable for the flu jab. We are not allowed to book anyone else in. And would usually refer to pharmacy if they are not eligable on Nhs. So i dont think its your Gps fault as they are just following the guidelines. Could you look into seeing if it can be done privately ? If pharmacies cant do i think that may be the only way.
