Do I just buy frozen from now on? Use by dates are so short, I've just had to chuck prawns, two pizzas and a pack of sausages in the bin because they've gone two days past their use by and I daren't risk it. How do you all prevent this? If I spot something I usually freeze it but I've completely forgotten to do that this time.

Buy less. Stick to a strict budget when you go shopping.

I add up the value of the shopping as I go around the supermarket. I also count the number of meals the shopping will make and if it's more than 12 meals I put stuff back.

Ignore the dates. If it looks and smells ok, then it's ok.

That's just poor organisation and wasting money on your part. You could have put all that in the freezer

Buy less at a time.

Meal plan.

Check dates.

If something is about to go out of date - cook it and freeze.
If something is out of date - smell and have a good look at it. I doubt sausages 2 days over the 'best before' date would be bad if stored properly.
