Takeout curry stinks

Badcurry · 16/10/2017 19:16

Didn't know where to post. Ordered a curry (chicken tikka masala) from my usual take out. Went to open it and got the biggest whiff of SHIT ever the curry absolutely reeks it has never smelt the way it does. I rang restaurant who first tried sending a replacement of course I didn't accept as the chicken must be bad or rat drippings or something I am thinking, so requested refund half hour ago, rung back and they said 30 to 4 minutes for driver to get here as busy. Do you think they will bring refund, I am not convinced, do they have to refund? What are my rights

OP, look on the Food Hygiene Rating site in future before eating/ordering from anywhere. That applies even when you aren't heavily pregnant.

Badcurry · 16/10/2017 20:52

Definitely will be checking from now on.I don't think I will eat curry from a take out for a long time if ever again 😷 I didn't order from just eat either, I was just glad to get money back as there was no where I should be out of pocket no matter how much for that shitAngry going to go about environmental health tomorrow and leave my review a few places. I still can't get over they served me that shitGrin dirty gets.

To be honest the requirements to get a 3 out 5 food hygiene rating are not that high. I wouldn’t eat there anyway!

InsomniacAnonymous · 16/10/2017 21:04

FruitCider exactly! If they don't know enough or care enough to get a 5 out of 5 I'd not eat anything they had prepared.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/10/2017 21:08

A rating of 3 is shit, should be a 5 no excuses.

It depends what it's given for. My local Chinese has a rating of 3 but the hygiene section is good, they lose on the structure of the building which is really old. Providing the hygiene part is good I wouldn't worry about a 3 rating.

Iseesheep · 16/10/2017 21:16

Why would you leave bad reviews when they've offered to replace the food and refunded you when you refused? I'm sure they didn't serve you up a crap curry deliberately!

SilverySurfer · 16/10/2017 21:16

All curry stinks [boak] I wouldn't touch food from a restaurant with a food hygene rating of 3.

InsomniacAnonymous · 16/10/2017 21:20

PinkSparklyPussyCat from the website " The food hygiene rating or inspection result given to a business reflects the standards of food hygiene found on the date of inspection or visit by the local authority. The food hygiene rating is not a guide to food quality."
How does the structure of an old building have any bearing on the rating it is awarded unless there is something about it which adversely affects food produced inside it?
If I have a choice of several places to eat in any area I will choose by looking at the menu on their website, reviews on Trip Advisor and the Food Hygiene rating. All those will tell me everything I need to know. For example, there's no point in going to a place with a 5* rating for food hygiene if there's nothing I want to eat, the quality and/or cooking of the food isn't good or the service is bad.

Bluerosethorns · 16/10/2017 21:23

@isesheep because they produced a carton of shit? In their kitchen? Which is fucking disgusting? And might find its way to a pregnant customer who might end up eating the whole thing if not as fortunate as OP? Seriously: there is no excuse for the food from some of these manky places. People deserve to know.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/10/2017 21:29

No idea Insomniac, but I don't see how the structure of the building is going to affect the food served there! Some people don't seem to realise the ratings are broken down into 3 sections and not all are related to hygiene. As I said, providing the hygiene is good I eat there.

Cappuccinoloverr · 16/10/2017 21:33

You've put me off of takeaways.

Badcurry · 16/10/2017 21:41

I don't think I will eat one again cappuccino! I suppose not all bad as I ended up having chicken salad for tea. Couldn't stomach anything else! Iseesheep I'm going to leave reviews as I don't want anyone else's home stunk out like mineGrin really not nice. Or I suppose I could not leave a review of how my curry had smelt like shit and let them fool more customers.

OP posts:
Bluerosethorns · 16/10/2017 21:43

Some of the takeaways near me look filthy and pay minimum wage and have staff that do not care. I was standing under shop cover to wait for the rain to pass recently and the pizza / chinese place had guys outside on their cigarette break with dirty fingernails - remember the thread on here about people not washing their hands after going to the toilet?... i am a bit ott about this but i like restaurants with open kitchens where staff wash their hands at point they walk in.

swg1 · 16/10/2017 22:30

I'm going to be the one objector and point out that pregnancy can come with an increased sense of smell (and taste) that can sometimes make perfectly innocent things smell awful.

I remember going through multiple cups of tea before realising the milk wasn't off, I just apparently can't drink tea while pregnant.

Badcurry · 16/10/2017 22:35

It wasn't just me who smelt it x

OP posts:
InsomniacAnonymous · 16/10/2017 22:37

Well, swg1 if the takeaway the OP used is up to par then they have nothing to fear from an inspection.

delilahbucket · 17/10/2017 07:08

Hope you are ok op and yes, report it to environmental health. They are pretty good with these things.
I only eat at places with a 4 or more hygiene rating. To get a 5 is a paperwork aspect that can be very challenging. Less than a 4 and they are missing some important stuff.

PondLifeinLondon · 17/10/2017 07:11

All curry stinks

Take it the whole of India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia etc "stinks" too?

ohmywhatamisaying · 17/10/2017 07:16

You could’ve taken a sample to environmental health and reported the place if you feel so strong about it. Instead, you got your money back and handed the curry over.

Never mind eh, hopefully someone else won’t get poisoned - fingers crossed!

ohmywhatamisaying · 17/10/2017 07:17

Get a grip, pondlife

Bluerosethorns · 17/10/2017 07:47
