For those who celebrate.

Soul food here- ribs, chicken wings, mac and cheese, etc.

The worst dish I made was oyster stuffing/dressing, oh god it was revolting.
Weirdly Dd loved it and ate it all.

Originally from Maryland but have been in the UK for last 20 odd years. Usually DF or DSis host Thanksgiving but this year I (stupidly) volunteered and am now hosting for at least 25 people Confused

So far my menu is consisting of two turkeys with all the trimmings, a large ham joint, crab cakes, cheesy crab dip bowls, candied sweet potatoes (with marshmallows obviously), boiled potatoes, roasties and mash, green bean casserole, and pumpkin pie and a pavlova for dessert.

As if we don't already have enough potato based food going on, DSis has informed me that she's going to make and bring a potato salad Grin

MissConductUS

I'm trying that, sounds like the perfect accompaniment to gratin dauphinois. Thank you.

Nightraven please tell me more about cheesy crab dip bowls.

@Floellabumbags

I often do the lemon butter green beans with potatoes au gratin, so I'm sure they'll be brilliant.

By the way, when I said I tossed them in a hot skillet, it just needs to be hot enough to melt the butter and keep the beans warm. They will cook just a tiny bit more in the finishing process. If they're too crunchy just cook them a bit more in the lemon butter.

Nothing. My sister lives in the US and will celebrate, with turkey and making her own cranberry sauce.

The good thing about it in a strange way is that it stops Christmas starting too early in the shops.

Sorry- I've been nearly dead from a tummy bug, and I managed to lose 24 hours!

The main reason I love Thanksgiving (besides remembering my nan) is the fact thay there's no pressure to outdo each other on gifts, etc. I can get around Tesco to load my cart up without having to shop at 3am, and the stores are still open when we run out of wine milk! Basically all the good bits of Christmas without any of the shite bits!

We have so far:

A turkey crown
Ribs (takes me hours to slow cook mine)
Mac and cheese
Momma Cherri's cornbread dressing
Candied yams
Mashed potatoes
Greens

Key lime pie and pumpkin pie for dessert (God Bless Halloween 😁)

Do any of you still retain any of your accent? You can still hear a little of mine, even though I've been over here for 20 odd years...and apparantly I sound like a cowboy when I'm pissed 😁😁

Floella a big yey to all those of us who know about the creepy ball guy!

This is fascinating. I love hearing about the traditions and food of other nations (I have a friend who is Dutch, and it's so intriguing hearing about the food they cook and the way they celebrate Christmas).

This is another of those things that the internet community is great for.
