To buy my DD(10) a tablet

She would like to listen to music in her room and use a tablet to research her homework.
I'm worried about internet access & grooming.
Am I being over protective? She is my PFB.

If I do buy her a tablet - which one is good for that age?

She shouldn't be using it in her room ever. There are plenty of other ways to play music. Also, how are you going to say no when her brother asks to do the same?

If she wants something to research homework, I would strongly suggest getting a laptop instead so that she can at least learn to keyboard.

We had a couple of kindle fires but the kids weren’t that into them. They are tricky to recharge as the charger ports are loose so you can’t charge as you are playing them. The apps are limited too. I ended up using them instead as I like to watch Amazon Prime TV. My kids have old iPhones or second hand iPod touches but for Christmas we are upgrading to new iPod touches. If you have an iPhone you can use the find my iPhone app whenever it goes missing. I would reconsider the iPod touch if I were you.

The problem with the amazon fire tab is you are restricted to Amazon apps which don't have anywhere near as many free apps as Google play. There's also much less variety.

I didn't like the Samsung galaxy tab 3 that dd had. It was a pita to transfer apps to a memory card to free up memory. The charging port was temperamental and would not charge no matter what cable/plug/socket was used for a few days and then would just start charging again.

My younger dcs have a Lenovo tab 3 that they got for Christmas last year and they're brilliant for games and music. It's so much easier to transfer games to a memory card than the Samsung was. They were about £50 last year in the black Friday sales plus £10 for a 32gb memory card.

My almost 10 year old dd loves her Lenovo tab and has loads of games, music and books on hers.
