Or have we even got a future, what with Trump and N Korea, Iran etc. I just hope we get through his presidency unscathed. What have we got to look forward to? Please cheer me up mumsnetters. Sad

I agree with BMW too

To be anything pessimistic shows a clear ignorance of modern history. It's North Korea, not the USSR. Things are good in many places and in others not much worse. People like two talk about things like Trump and ISIS like it's never happened before but if has and we're still here. The only reason why things would go wrong this time is because many people seem to have lost their backbone. London withstood the blitz ffs and yet you have all these people working g themselves into hysterics over a few failed terrorist attacks. Grow up.

Whilst there is a balance and perspective to be found here (and I don't think anyone is saying let's hide in a nuclear bunker here), I find the insinuations that anyone who is concerned about world events is somehow ignorant or alarmist deeply offensive.
Yes we survived two world wars, the Cold War, various other atrocities but it wasn't exactly fun, was it? Yes we'll survive again, I'm sure, but no one exactly wants to go through shit like that, do they?
On a very basic level, my company is already working its entire 5 year plan on the basis that Brexit is going to cause our economy massive problems. I'm a tiny cog far down the chain, but if far more educated and experienced people than me are effectively working on the basis that half of us will be out of jobs in a few years, then I'm going to stick with my "I'll get on with life but I'm concerned about the future" attitude, if that's ok.

what BMW6 said - I'm 47 I grew up in the cold war - you can't live your life like it's over already - I am very optimistic because the alternative is what? Give up?

ghostyslovesheets · 14/10/2017 21:54

oh and it was fun at times - I loved my time at Geenham very much - singing, dancing, being chased by dogs and soldiers Grin

charmedrose · 15/10/2017 10:47

Ttbb i wasn't really talking about terrorist attacks though.
