To wonder why Polanski doesnt get the outcry that Weinstein has got?

Meryl Streep in particular was all over Polanski despite knowing him to be a child rapist, btu has publicly spoken about her disgust at HW.

Ewan McGregor happily worked with him despite having teen daughters himself so could presumably imagine the devastation caused by such an attack.

Why?

Their answer would probably be that it was a long time ago, things were different then, it wasn’t proven - in truth it’s because they are a bunch of hypocrites that are all coming out to condemn HW in order to make sure they don’t get called out by the media & Twitter. I’m glad anyone that supported Polanski is getting bad press now, it’s about time.

I think it’s because he’s an “artist” and Weinstein isn’t perceived that way. Additionally because he had a sad history and being such a tortured artist he couldn’t help raping a child.

They’re all sharing Eminem, noted misogynist’s latest thing as they share tweets saying they won’t stand for violence against women anymore.

It’s almost amusing.

Just done some googling and Piers Morgan wrote an article for the DM about the same thing. I have to say that I never thought I would ever agree with him!

DH mused about whether this would be the start of a US Yewtree style investigation. I wish it was but I dont think it will be.

Actually, considering that "things were different" there was quite a lot of outrage at the time, especially amongst the general public, against Roman Polanski. I can't remember specifics, but I can recall a general feeling of disgust from many in Hollywood. I don't live in the US but at the time was very interested in the mass media.

I think there was, unfortunately, still some residual sympathy, which was perhaps seen as mitigating circumstances, for Roman Polanski resulting from Sharon Tate's murder. Of course, the two things should have been seen as completely unrelated.

Additionally, in forty years time, history may well have rewritten Harvey Weinstein's story. I'm not saying that this is a good thing (actually, quite the reverse) - but, for example, does anyone now care that the founder of the "magnificent" Kennedy dynasty, Joe, apparently engineered a rape charge against a business man who refused to sell Kennedy a thriving business?
