DH has said we might be able to afford a winter holiday to Lapland, one day. I'm hoping while kids are young enough to enjoy it.

We have not been abroad much and I feel very excited!

We took dd5 last Christmas . It was amazing. Me and ex dp ( only recently split) enjoyed it as much as her. I went with Thomas cook but someone we met out there went with jet2 and had a much better deal. Still worth every penny x

We were in Levi fell in Finland btw. We actually went for Christmas as it was slightly cheaper than the week before for some reason.

We went a few years back on the 3 day trip and it was amazing would strongly recommend. The 3 day trip was very similar in price to the one day trip. I left in late to book (November ish) and got an excellent deal, something like £400 each via Thomson which included flights, staying in Santa Sport hotel (which has pool with spa parts children can use and children's playcentre), snow gear, Christmas meal which Santa appeared at and reindeer and fireworks, reindeer sledging, husky sledging etc, meal at centre, visit to Santa, elves, gingerbread making.

Would love to do it every year. The hotel worked well for us as we could just walk to the pool in the hotel whereas people in the lodges had to make it in the dark mainly through deep snow. Food outside the posh meals can be basic but really not a problem, we did take a few drinks, snacks over with us which was worth doing.

I would say 10 is fine, age I wouldn't recommend is under 5s as they can't cope with the cold and a few crying but obviously difficult for those with 3 or more plus think they are free under 3 so tempting. My DD started to believe again!

@verystressedmum - yes, staying in Rovaniemi one night (one night in Helsinki, two on sleeper trains either side) in a budget apartment. No visits included - Santa Village is free, but have to pay for extras like Santa gift, reindeer excursion etc. It’s costing

Be prepared to spend a fortune in Santa Village !!!! We stayed in Rovanemi also. I would say it's too cold for the under 5s, but my eldest had just turned 11 when we went, and still found it magical
