To need a bit of help with present ideas for unknown child from nursery

My dd has been invited to a birthday party of a child from nursery I don't know child or parent

I rsvpd on the day that we received the invite thanking for invite and confirming our attendance and asked if there is any gift list, present preferences, voucher type requests. This is normal in our friendship group and an amazon wish list is not unusual

Mum replied with oh don't worry about a gift too much just something girly will be nice

I know party mum doesn't want to appear Grabby/entitled but literally I couldn't pick this child out of a line up and my dd isn't really helpful as she's 3. The other thing is this child could be 3 or 4 so some suggestions would have been helpful to me

Can you lively mnetters help

Sometimes I use the invitation as an indicator - if all else fails. I.E. - my nephew sent out dinosaur invites as he loves them - if it's Frozen invites then maybe something Frozen? If it's just generic, well I have been known to type into Amazon "gifts for 7 year old boy" and take the guess work out of it that way.
At her age though, I imagine most things will be ok Grin

Those huge bows that look too big for little girls heads seem popular just now.
Colouring book and pencils.
Beanie Baby? Are they still a thing?
A little purse and some pound coins?
DK kids crafts book? Something with Christmas crafts? I saw one with Princess crafts once.
A little baking set? Cookie cutters?

Nicpem1982 · 11/10/2017 16:34

The invite is from the venue and gives no indication

Just get something pink and generic. It doesn't matter much.

lizabes · 11/10/2017 16:37

I would just go a walk through the toy aisle at the supermarket and see what’s pink and preferably glittery within your budget.
A doll or dressing up accessories are probably a safe bet.

Newtssuitcase · 11/10/2017 16:37

With that sort of budget I'd go for one of the girly lego juniors sets, Snow White's cottage for example is £12

They can always regift it or swap it if it's no good so I wouldn't worry too much.

Play doh cake kit was the best present my 3yr old got from nursery friend. Avoid age inappropriate gifts. I swifly removed an age 7+ nail art set and popped it in the charity bag.

Nicpem1982 · 11/10/2017 16:41

Thanks for all of your help I've ordered a play doh pony play doh thing from amazon that I think looks like tat but hopefully the child will like

I got twistable pens and a paw patrol colouring book for a little boy at nursery and the mother was delighted because she said the house was full of toys and he loved to colour. You could get something similar with my little pony or frozen or whatever character they are into at that age.

MrsClegane · 11/10/2017 19:52

My daughter has a few play-doh pony sets....hours of fun. Which set did you choose?

I was going to suggest enchantimals dolls...my dd is loving them at the moment, they're cute and get an extra little animal friend.

CaveMum · 11/10/2017 19:56

I now only give books for nursery birthday presents after receiving a shed load of plastic stuff for DD's birthday earlier this year (first child and first birthday party we had thrown for her so I wasn't expecting the volume!).

The Book People do good deals on collections of books so I tend to buy a couple of packs of 10 books and then give each birthday child 2 or 3 depending on the size of the book.

ecosln · 11/10/2017 20:12

My dd just had a 3rd party with friends from nursery.

Some things she got below.... I have 3 children and try to spend as little as possible without too much tat! Also able to re gift if already have it! Tk maxx and John Lewis own games and toys are good below £10.

Super tato book
Play doh
Orchard games
A sylvanian baby with pushchair
Duplo

mummmy2017 · 11/10/2017 20:23

A nice little purse, and put some change in it.
Kids love money...

BriechonCheese · 11/10/2017 20:26

You can get fairy lights to spell out names on Amazon, team it with some Lego and bingo - perfect gift.

dementedma · 11/10/2017 20:30

Amazon wish list for a 3 year old? Wow. When mine were that age we just accepted anything and were grateful someone had taken the trouble.

OhHolyFuck · 11/10/2017 20:30

orchard cupcake game

ParanoidBeryl · 11/10/2017 20:32

I see you have already ordered, but I was going to suggest some nice wooden play food. We have loads and it has been played with consistently over the years.

Nicpem1982 · 11/10/2017 20:35

Mrs - a rainbow dash one with 6 little tubs of play doh

Dementedma- yeah it takes the guessing out and they get what they want/need

i think the my little pony play doh sounds just right.

im surprised at the peopl esuggesting fairy lights for a 3/4 year old. I wouldn't let my child have them in their bedroom (strangulation risk plus mine would be turning them on and off all night). I wouldnt know what to do with them to be honest.

i think generic play doh / disney princess type stuff is more suitable for nursery friends.

mummyofmoomoos · 11/10/2017 22:05

I love home bargains for party presents, branded stuff at superb prices, got 4 thomas the tank engine take and play die-cast trains from there last week for less than a tenner, when they're 6-9 pounds each at toys r us, always lots of frozen, princess, minnie mouse stuff Smile

Jakeyboy1 · 11/10/2017 22:23

It's all about unicorns right now if age 4+ check out M&S or Sainsbury's.

For age 2 - Peppa pig
Age 3 - princesses

Assume falls into one of these categories if at nursery!

Nicpem1982 · 12/10/2017 14:09

Jackey - her nursery goes up to 4 with mixed classes so child could be anywhere between 2 and 4.

I have a 10 yr old niece who loves unicorns atm

I had a similar situation for this coming Sunday. I've gone for a book.

CaveMum · 12/10/2017 14:32

I already mentioned them upthread, but seriously Book People are your best friend in these situations!
