The answer is to build more homes.

I could cry.

chap by us has a converted bike as he is wheelchair bound, it’s light weight and he literally zips round in it - faster than walking

MrsLH would probably last about 5 minutes before the fatigue of MS caught up with her. I would happily push all day (I'm still working on a harness, but local saddlers have become suspicious at one middle aged man getting through so much leather Grin).

Even so, I'd guess he's less than mobile when faced with a line of pavement parked cars, blocked dropped kerbs, and potholed pavements ?

LurkingHusband I don't think anyone on here is suggesting everyone should have to walk, cycle etc. It's more about getting those who could do that to stop and think about their car journeys.

The problem is that (up until now), the only way to achieve the latter seems to be by enforcing the former. And as this very site shows, the drive to get more people onto public transport can sometimes push the less able off Sad.

I didn’t know if Yara could ride a bicycle. Walking to school pushing the bike and then ride into the train station.

I used to have to use a bike when dds were little as car was to slow to cover the onward journey to work after dropping dds off, and a bike literally took half the time.

I had to use a bike after work as I only had a limited time to get to after school club and driving was again to slow.

TBH driving is the slowest form of traffic, then walking which is slightly faster and then bike which can considerable reduce travel time over three miles or less

If noone could drive (cars) anymore, then houses near good transport links would skyrocket in price and the poor would still suffer as the government will make up new reasons on why they cannot improve the public transport.

I won't argue that point, but I meant on an individual basis: what would all the people who absolutely insist they cannot use any other method of transport besides the car do if circumstances intervened and took their access to said car away? Apologies if it wasn't clear.

The human race has lived without cars for thousands of years. The problem is it’s like we’ve evolved to live with them, but why can’t we evolve to live without them again? I know one thing for sure we wouldn’t all die but we will die if the earth is ruined
