AIBU to think Donna Karan is a bit behind the times in regard to her friend Harvey?

Donna Karan tripped out the line that the women were asking for it, asking about what they wore...this bit probably stumped me more than the rest of it.
It was always my view that DK's brand was based on women wearing what they wanted to, what flattered them, empowered them. Though I won't get over the bodies I wore in the 80s 90s that gave the added fun of creating a wedge up the Noo Naa.
I respected her as a woman who wanted women to wear clothes that were practical and sexy, a woman who turned a corner in fashion.
If he is her friend, well then I suppose she felt compelled to come to his defense but to wheel out that old victim blaming shite was unexpected. I expected more of her.

@mrsover this might enlighten you. Subject of the article is MB.

She never said beautiful girls deserved to be raped.

MrsOverTheRoad · 18/10/2017 00:35

Even though the actress did not explicitly credit her wardrobe or lack of touchy-feely schmoozing for helping her avoid sexual assault, the linkage is unmistakable

I thought she mentioned her Mother's advice not to let anyone on set hug her or call her baby, merely to show how her parents were aware of the sick bastards who were in the industry.

If she wants to dress modestly and not flirt, that's her right. She's doing nothing wrong to share that.

I dress modestly and don't flirt. But I don't judge women who don't act like me. I judge men who are pricks.

I’m willing to give MB the benefit of the doubt in that I believe her message is “women in the industry are held to impossibly high beauty standards, this is orchestrated by men for their own personal gains and I’m lucky I’ve managed to avoid all that and the exploitation needs to stop”. It was worded badly but I think her intentions were good

MrsOverTheRoad · 18/10/2017 01:05

Cherry I agree with you. She needed to be more careful in her choice of words, given her high profile.

I dress modestly and don't flirt.

But I don't think that would have helped these women assaulted by HW.

He was relentless. In his hotel room, in private rooms at restaurants, in conference rooms at offices. There was no escape and no place was safe.

What women thought were legitimate meetings were actual preludes to or actual casting couches.

MrsOverTheRoad · 18/10/2017 02:40

No I don't either. I think she was waffling slightly.
