also wearing black clothing. Did anyone else have a granny like this. She used to hate black and women wearing trousers she used to hate it and would comment.

Cant remember how we dealt with it but did anyone else have a granny like this when they were younger?

When I was little, black clothes were only for mourning. Some very religious women even went from black to grey then purple clothes as kind of stages of mourning dress,

My mother never wore trousers and when I was young girls weren't allowed to wear trousers to school and it's only in the last 20 years that female teachers were allowed to wear them.

I used to have to wear a skirt when visiting my grandad. I remember that.

Since I've met people who think that women's smart attire should be skirts/heels/makeup I'm sure these people are someone's relations. I don't approve of any enforced dress code except for generic smart and black for funerals.

No, how old are you? I’m 48 and neither of my grandmothers had this view, although one did like to tell me regularly “a crisp white shirt” was the most flattering thing, I never wore white shirts, crisp or otherwise,,

I'm 34 and my Nan has never worn trousers.

She also thinks its outrageous that I wear dresses without tights.

My MIL was like this. I don't think she ever wore trousers!

My grandmother (the same age) frequently wore bright red trousers. I miss them and her very much.

these days funerals are more colourful than black as a celebration of life.

My Granny wore trousers - she was born in 1907, so hardly grew up with them. I don't remember her wearing black though, although I never heard her criticise anyone else for wearing it.

Teachers at my primary school wore trousers 45 years ago.

Yep, my gran even wore a skirt when gardening.

Teachers have only been allowed to wear trousers since 1997? What?!

They brought in grey corduroy trousers for girls in winter in my school when I was 15. They seem to have been quite groundbreaking, as I'm now 50, and I've read of women on here having to wear skirts at school much more recently.

I wish we had been allowed to wear trousers at school like they are now.

I live in black, navy and white. But I'd never wear black, or trousers to a wedding or any other celebratory event. It is a mourning colour. I don't particularly like trousers, they are just more practical when dealing with service users who might assault me; TBH I don't really think flashing my knickers and laddered tights are particularly becoming when getting up off the floor .

In particular, I would never wear trousers to an interview.

My Mum is 77. She wears jeans and looks pretty good in them.

My Nan never, as far as I can recall, wore trousers. Always a blouse and skirt. She was born in 1935. My Grandma, born in 1937 wore skirts and trousers.

Some of my teachers wore trousers in the 70s!

All my grandparents were born in the 19th century, so neither grandmother wore trousers and I can't remember either of them wearing black. I can remember my mother wearing trousers when she was in her 40's and she visited her friend, who literally screamed when she opened the door and thought it was absolutely hilarious to see my mother wearing trousers. That kind of put her off as she felt too self-conscious after that.

it's only in the last 20 years that female teachers were allowed to wear them I'm probably considerably older than you and I had teachers in the 1970's in jeans and trousersuits.

My granny would be in her late 90s and she wore trousers. She was very cool though.
