To report an untaxed and MOTed car?

I live in a terraced house and there are enough parking spaces for each house to have two spaces each. All but one house has been abiding by this.

The house on the end has two working cars that they use, and one vintage car that stays parked all the time. They've been parking in a neighbours space without permission for the past two weeks since buying the second working car, and that neighbour has now parked their second car in my additional space. If they'd asked, I wouldn't mind, as I've only got the one car and I always park in a particular space at the back of my house, but they've been parking it in that one rather than the free one on the front. Makes it a massive pain in the arse to get out in the morning as I'm on the wrong side of the road and I've got to lug any shopping over a main road to get it in.

Anyway I was walking past the vintage car and peeked inside out of curiosity. It's not got a steering wheel. I checked online and it's not taxed or MOTed and hasn't been since earlier this year. It's parked on their space at the side of the house, which is actually on a public road (the spaces on the back are not a public road, so they've fucked right up there).

WIBU to report it? The form says it can be done anonymously but I worry that it'll be pretty easy to figure out that it was me since them having this car has caused the other neighbour to park in my spot.

dantdmistedious you can check if a car is taxed/mot’d using its number plate online on the .gov website.

Oops cross post.

Ooh didn't know that!

Great diagram OP!

Ok, so there is actually one allocated space per house, on the private road behind the house, but the spaces on the public road aren't privately owned, so free for all and it's just that there aren't any other houses nearby to "compete" for them as you say? In that case your issue is with your neighbour at no 6 who is using your private space. The other neighbour's vintage car is a bit of a red herring as anyone could park in the spaces on the public road - visitors, adult children with their own car etc. It's a pain but not much you can do about it since they could choose to leave it in their own private space around the back and park their two other cars at the front.

Basically there are now 15 cars but only 14 spaces so it's going to be first come, first served for anyone with more than one car. Your neighbour absolutely shouldn't park in your space though. If he continues to do so after you've had a polite word, then I'd make sure to park your car in his space ("no 6") whenever you find it empty.

Just speak to them. It's your allocated space, you have every right to use it and to ask them not to. You don't have to be nasty about it, just firm. If you would like to offer them your other space then do so (I wouldn't if they have a perfectly usable paved area they could store it in like you say). Just say you are not sure if they are aware that they are using your space and could they please move the car so you can park there.

It might not have to be taxed but they would have had to apply for historic vehicle status to stop paying tax and the fact the DVLA states tax was due earlier this year suggests they haven't. Also it needs an MOT and to be in a roadworthy condition if it hasn't been declared SORN.

I reported an untaxed, no MOT ( and therefore no insurance) vehicle to DVLA in February, it only got moved last week.

A 1971 car is not a vintage car, it’s a classic car. It will be tax exempt but still needs to be ‘taxed’ at a zero rate. From early next year it’ll be MOT exempt too.
