To be annoyed at next door's 'phallic' chimney pot?

We have a shared chimney stack and there were two small chimney pots. One for our house and one for next door.
Whilst we were away for a week, they must have got builders in and they put in a monster chimney pot with a cowl for next door and reduced ours to being flush with the chimney stack.
They never told us this work was being done. I have used the wood fire since and the 'draw' seems unaffected. But WHY?? Does one chimney have to be bigger than the other?
It makes me feel like they are lording it over us...
Which by the way they are anyway as they own all the land around our estate.

They shouldn't have altered any part of your building without your prior consent.

This ^^

But also Grin Grin

Spray "Are you compensating?" on theirs.

Does anyone know if they'd need planning permission for this? And yes, they shouldn't be buggering about with your side.

(And to whoever posted "first world problems" - I am really enjoying first world problem discussion like chimney pots as a break from all the majorly awful stuff going on in the world!)

They need the reinstate your chimney or replace it. Chimney pots control the downdraft of air and not having one can cause serious problems, not least of which is possible chimney fires or water ingress. Your neighbour needs the make it good, either by reinstating your pot, or replacing it for one that matches their own(height wise)

Joking aside, disappointed in the lack of a penis shaped chimney cos I'm childish they are perfectly entitled to replace their chimney pot and add a cowl, to improve draw or stop birds falling in.
They don't need pp for this.

What they can't do is make any alterations to your chimney or chimney pot without your agreement.
Perhaps their builders removed your pot to fit their new improved one? In any case their builders should replace your chimney pot at their expense.

You say your fire was ok when you lit it, but it might not be if the weather/wind direction changes so don't leave this.

I'd ask them - politely - why they'd changed my chimney pot.

Maybe leave out the bit about cocks though.
