WIBU to call in sick?

Today I have woke up and found I have flooded a ST, this is my first proper AF since I was 15 due to contraception of various sorts.
AF used to make me throw up on the first day.
Today I feel a bit sicky.
I work in a job that when I'm there it will be hard for me to come home.
WIBU to phone in sick today?

I hate these threads. They always bring out the "Oh, I went to work when I had pneumonia/the plague/half my head missing" brigade.

Ultimately, OP, if you are not feeling comfortable with going in, and your work will not penalise you for taking a day to make sure your don''t projectile vomit all over your computer, take the day.

You said yourself it has been 15 years since this has happened and it might very well be a one off. IF - and it is a big IF - it becomes a regular thing, then I'm sure you're sensible enough to go to the GP to discuss any options you may have to manage the condition.

I spent months going into work and vomiting when I was pregnant with three DC; taking time off because I was feeling sicky would have left me without a job. Likewise I've stayed at work with a sick headache when I had to, working on the basis that I generally felt better once I'd vomited.

TheDodgyEnd · 09/10/2017 08:56

OP do what feels right for you. If you don’t think you can cope going in then take a day. Don’t worry about all these people who apparently would still go to work whilst in the throes of bubonic plague. Only you know how you feel. If you can manage go in, if not, don’t.

BetterEatCheese · 09/10/2017 09:01

Definitely don't go if you don't feel well enough. I used to have horrendous brain numbing, painful, heavy, faint periods and I couldn't do a thing. I don't understand why so many people say you need to toughen up. Mine hurt on every level and I couldn't function

ilovesooty · 09/10/2017 09:13

You know how you feel and what your work policies are.

Looneytune253 · 09/10/2017 11:02

@NerrSnerr why? She doesn’t have hg so I’m baffled by your comment. It’s a good tip for a lot of people?

QuestionableMouse · 09/10/2017 11:20

I just want to say again that there are many jobs where going in while vomiting FOR ANY REASON will get you sent home.

cornerstoned · 09/10/2017 11:44

the OP didn't say she is sick or vomitting. she asked to stay at home because she felt a bit under the weather and though she might get sick later on based on her AF experiences back as a teenager. of course this is totally unreasonable. is is not the same as having awful pain, heavy flow and being sick.

welshweasel · 09/10/2017 12:15

I don't know of any jobs, other than those handling food, where you'd be send home because you puked due to period pain/pregnancy. That includes doctors, nurses, teachers, carers etc. It's not really about the vomiting. If you feel too unwell to work then you call in sick. Generally if I'm debating it/needing validation from strangers on the internet, I should probably be at work!

FakePlasticTeaLeaves · 09/10/2017 12:33

At my work, they would let someone go home if they had thrown up. It really depends on the work place and their policies. Though we can all work from home, so it's easier to allow.

FakePlasticTeaLeaves · 09/10/2017 12:34

I do agree though - if you are wondering whether you should or shouldn't, you aren't really that ill

BastardGoDarkly · 09/10/2017 17:13

Well op? Did you go in? Hmm

YouCantArgueWithStupid · 09/10/2017 17:16

I’m 18 weeks pregnant and have been throwing up since about 5 mins after we DTD (exaggeration Grin) but it’s constant at least 5 times a day and I haven’t missed a day of work for it. As PPs said; it’s not contagious so I think you should go in.

honeysucklejasmine · 09/10/2017 17:21

"just a period"

Hmm
TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 09/10/2017 17:30

@HotelEuphoria
Ginger biscuit and a cup of tea, you won't be sick.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
I spent years throwing up every month. A "ginger biscuit and a cup of tea" would have done fuck all, except make my puke a bit browned.

Dickhead.

NerrSnerr · 09/10/2017 18:05

@Looneytune253 because ginger biscuits are not some anti sickness wonder drug. They may take the edge off nausea possibly but they won’t stop the vast majority of people throwing up.
