Pains in the night

I've been waking up in the middle of the night with bad pains in the top of my adomen and middle back. Tonight has been the worse. The pain in my adomen is just below where you'd do chest compressions and it's agony. It feels like I'm constantly sucking in and my abdomen is being stretched when it isn't.

Can anyone give any suggestion as to what it might be?

My case was different because of the severe infection - I had to wait until the infection was completely cleared because its dangerous to cut into it if it's infected, but once that was gone I had it removed very quickly (within a few weeks) although it may have been seen as a more urgent case I suppose. I didn't have to be symptom free, just free of infection.

Could well be pancreatitis or indeed a pulmonary embolism. Time for GP this morning. Has pain subsided at all?

Morning everyone, No pain lay night at all, I slept through! I made sure I avoided fatty foods all day yesterday so maybe that helped? I don't have any pain throughout the days, it attacks in the middle of the night and wakes me up.

Glad to hear last night was better but you still need to see your GP. If it is gallstones I would want to get on the list to have gallbladder removed as soon as you can.
If you have a full on biliary colic attack, when a stone gets stuck, you will think you are going to die from the pain. It is quite simply the worst pain ever.
Get yourself checked so you know for sure what you're dealing with.
