Taking DS to A&E

NoUseNumber27 · 07/10/2017 17:45

14 month old DS fell over at swimming, forehead first, has been sleepy ever since but not sure if swimming just wore him out?

Now in the car en route to hospital and he seems more awake and happier. AIBU to take him to A&E?
Don’t want to be seen as a crazy mum or waste anyone’s time!

Always a & e if sleepy after a head injury.

BertrandRussell · 07/10/2017 17:46

If you're concerned -take him. They'll see him quickly and it'll give you peace of mind,. Good luck.

gamerchick · 07/10/2017 17:46

If it puts your mind at rest then take him. Hospitals don’t mind seeing littluns.

existentialmoment · 07/10/2017 17:47

I wouldn't if he's perfectly fine now. If he literally just fell over rather than feel from a height its' not like he can have done much damage. Does he even have a mark on him?

Bobbiepin · 07/10/2017 17:47

Not U at all. Hope he's ok. Trust your instincts.

Clutterbutter · 07/10/2017 17:48

New advice is to let them sleep after a bang to the head. Feels alien but there you go. Hope he’s ok.

ghostyslovesheets · 07/10/2017 17:50

I wouldn't if he's rousable - being 'sleepy' is normal as long as he responds to something like foot tickling etc - keep an eye on him - go to A+E if he less rousable, vomits, fits etc

you could try 111 initially

NoUseNumber27 · 07/10/2017 18:08

111 said go to A&E

Yes he has a bruise and lump

Always get a head injury checked out. Remember Liam Neesins wife was perfectly fine after a fall and then she passed away a

TopBitchoftheWitches · 07/10/2017 18:11

A lump is good. No lump means internal bleeding usually. (Not medically trained, just what I was told when ds3 had concussion)

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 07/10/2017 18:17

Never take chances with a head injury.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 07/10/2017 18:19

Why take the chance?

Take him.

They'd rather see someone who's fine than not see someone who wasn't.

Fairybella · 07/10/2017 18:24

Hope he is ok

Justaboy · 07/10/2017 18:28

Trust me go and take him to A&E and go now!.

Starlight2345 · 07/10/2017 18:30

Yes get him checked out..Hope he is fine and no reasons.. Better that than not taking him and regretting it.

brasty · 07/10/2017 18:32

I have to admit that I wouldn't. But do what you think is best.

Fernanie · 07/10/2017 18:33

New advice is to let them sleep after a bang to the head.

@Clutterbutter - is it?? Where have you seen that?
(Not doubting you, just I haven't heard that and want to be up to date on the latest advice for my own DC's sake!)

MrsMotherHen · 07/10/2017 18:35

i would go just to check.

EverythingRightNow · 07/10/2017 18:37

Hope all goes ok, better to be safe than sorry.

KitKat1985 · 07/10/2017 18:38

I'd get him checked out. Chances are he's absolutely fine, but it's not worth the risk on the small possibility that he isn't.

Eminybob · 07/10/2017 18:41

I took DS the other day after he bumped his head, and he wasn't even sleepy. In fact he was perfectly fine, but the size of the lump on his head was shocking.

I was very apologetic to the doctor but he said it doesn't matter it's always best to take them in for a head injury.

existentialmoment · 07/10/2017 18:49

I'm not saying you shouldn't, but I'm bemused at all the "take no chances after a head injury" posts. Toddlers bang their heads all the time, you couldn't possibly take them to hospital every time they get a bump. It's not a head injury in any real sense of the word.
And comparing it to someone who died in a skiing accident is just bizzarre.

Ginnotginger · 07/10/2017 18:51

If you have phoned 111 and they have told you to take your DS to A&E, I'm not sure why you are posting here tbh. They are the professionals - follow their advice.
Hope your Ds is okay.

It's not bizarre. There are levels of head injury. This is one given the child fell and has a lump. He's a baby. He needs to be checked. No one with any decency would begrudge a mum wanting her baby checked.
