to be annoyed with my neighbour for killing my rabbit?

Having been away for easter weekend, my neighbour agreed to feed/clean out bunny as she usually does. She has a daughter same age and my ds and a little west highland terrier. Anyway, her daughter accidentally let the bunny out of his hutch and the dog got him. He died of fright. Ds absolutely distraught. I am livid that she bought her dog into the garden. She is upset and is her dd (they have a bunny too).. HOw do I deal with this?

kick their arse!

Swizzler · 09/04/2007 21:46

Sounds like a genuine mistake - she's upset, what good would it do to have a go at her? Unless you want to confiscate her dd's bunny in return

Chandra · 09/04/2007 21:46

Well whatever you tell your neighbour, the rabbit won't come back

Perhaps concentrate into easing the pain of your DS and try to forget about the neighbour until you have this other storm sorted? (I would be livid too, but concentrate in what is important now)

Does he know the dog got it?

kid · 09/04/2007 21:46

Oh dear, I'd probably be annoyed at her too.

I think she should buy you another rabbit at the very least but I know thats not going to make up for the one that died.

scatterbrain · 09/04/2007 21:47

Oh how awful - for all of you actually !!!

Agree that she shouldn't have brought her dog round though !

It's difficult - she was doing you a favour - I think on balance you should be gracious and forgive ! She must be mortified ! She couldn't really have anticipated your bunny dying of fright - I think get a new bunny for ds - forgive neighbour and move on !

Next time you go away ?? She won't risk it again I'm sure !

twinklemeagain · 09/04/2007 21:47

I'm really sorry for you awenbadbunny - that's a dreadful thing to happen. It sounds pretty stupid to have brought the dog with her if you ask me. I'd be furious and very upset.

awenbadbunny · 09/04/2007 21:49

She is a bit wierd tbh and I dont think I will confront her..

She dyed her hair the same colour as mine, and buys same clothes.

this is obvioulsy a deeper problem - what's the story? i'm sorry but it sounds mad

Plibble · 09/04/2007 21:51

The same thing (more or less) happened to my bunny when I was a child. The dog was bigger - a husky- and it came into our garden and got one of my rabbits (broke its neck) and the other died of fright. I was about 12 and I found them. I've always been very matter of fact about animals, death, where meat comes from etc, but this really upset me and I can still remember how shocked I was.
I think you should have a rabbit funeral and take your son to get a new rabbit. I really think that the best way for him to get over it will be to get another one. Also, never let these people bring their dog to your house again. I would also get someone else to look after the rabbit when you go away next time.

Chandra · 09/04/2007 21:51

do you think she dropped the bunny from the balcony?

Chandra · 09/04/2007 21:52

Agree about the rabbit funeral, it certainly can help a child to know the rabbit may be gone but at least is in a good place.

awenbadbunny · 09/04/2007 21:53

She is very very strange..... As I said she has copied my haristyle, clothing, treid to seduce dp... I think she deliberately killed the bunny...

OP posts:
awenbadbunny · 09/04/2007 21:53

Chandra we dont have a balcony

OP posts:
southeastastra · 09/04/2007 21:54

i'd still kick her ass

Chandra · 09/04/2007 21:56

Pleas excuse me, but you may be saying these things because you are annoyed. There should be a good thing about her if you decided to leave the bunny with her.

It seems very much like an accident, no need to make the things worse than they already are

scatterbrain · 09/04/2007 21:58

What ?? Are you serious or is this another of those joke threads ??

It was an accident as far as I can see !

Shouldn't have happende - BUT - it was just a bunny - Move on !!!

Chandra · 09/04/2007 21:58

Sorry about the balcony, you were very much describing the argument of the "Single White Female..." film. And I got carried away

But perhaps is just that she thinks you look great and she is getting some inspiration from you

awenbadbunny · 09/04/2007 21:58

DP thinks I am being silly and we should not let bunny go to waste. He thinks we should teach ds about life and death and eat the bunny.. not sure i could stomach it

OP posts:
scatterbrain · 09/04/2007 21:59

Yep - as I suspected - it;s yet another piss take ! Byeeeeee !!!

WanderingTrolley · 09/04/2007 22:00

Is it a big bunny? Could you make yourself a pair of slippers?

Throw neighbour from balcony.
