To get rid of the sleepyhead

Given the recent coverage on sleep positioners and the US findings is anyone else getting rid of theirs?
I presume the sleepyhead is included but I will be sad to see it go or AIBU?

My DD got her head stuck face down under the buckle of a Sleepyhead.

The sound she made I will never forget & I am so grateful I checked on her.

That site will stay with me for always.

This is why I never bought a sleepyhead. I just couldn't see how they could possibly be safe, given the info about sleep positioned that was already out there. If a tiny baby rolls on to their front in one, there's no way they'd be able to roll back again.

Impydimy how scary I hadn't even thought of the clip. So glad your daughter was ok. Do you mind me asking how old she was when it happened?

I believe that's why the instructions say to keep the buckle of the grand unbuckled at all times, or maybe that's just a new thing!

Kpo58 · 07/10/2017 16:14

I'd only use a sleepyhead until they can roll from their back onto their side.

How did your DD get her head around the buckle as that is the foot end of the sleepyhead?

ImpyDimpy · 07/10/2017 19:33

Boston From memory she was 8 mths-ish. She had just got to the 'sitting-up independently' stage.

ImpyDimpy · 07/10/2017 19:33

KPO She sat herself up, rotated then wriggled Sad

Given that the sleepyhead should only be used under supervision, which I clearly can't do at night, does anyone have any recommendations on how to get baby to settle without it? Been a long few nights!! Thanks everyone

When I bought one two years ago I really really worried about this so I emailed them. They sent me back all the safety info and detailed reports and investigations. They also told me they were so safe they were going to sell in the US which is obviously the most litigious country in the world.

They are made of breathable fabric I believe so if they did end up face down it shouldn't be a problem.

My daughter slept through the night from an early age in one and I personally thought they were great. I did have a breathing sensor though too. Can you tell I was an anxious first timer!

They are sold in the US but if you read the blog post linked to earlier they have a different name and are not officially marketed as being safe for sleeping.
