To ask what movie scene never fails to make you cry even after numerous watches

I’m watching Moana with the kids today, for the billionth time (I don’t mind as I love the film) and no matter how hard I try I always cry at the scene where the grandma tells Moana to go and find Maui, then she’s dies and her spirit fish swims into the sea and above Moana. You’d think I would be immune to it by now, but no!

What makes you cry every time?

Kitty, that is exactly what dh says to me!

WhatWouldDarylDixonDo · 06/10/2017 17:04

The end of Empire of the Sun. When Christian Bale is stood with all the other kids and his parents find him.

Big snotty sobs every single time.

Ilikethai · 06/10/2017 17:11

Interstellar too, was on a plane to China... blubbed the whole way through pretty much, thank god it was dark so that no one had to see my blotchy ugly-cry face.

pineapplehead48 · 06/10/2017 17:12

Many many scenes through the pursuit of happyness - the bathroom scene in the train station is a sad cry.. and the end when he gets offered the job and he’s walking through the streets all teary eyed and that music starts playing... gets me everytime!

Thadeus · 06/10/2017 17:14

She’s having a baby. The part when you don’t know she is going to survive and you have this woman’s world playing in the background.

InMySpareTime · 06/10/2017 17:19

The poem in Four Weddings and a Funeral, just that bit where his voice catches at "I thought that love would last forever - I was wrong" 😭

magentastights · 06/10/2017 17:20

The Color Purple.
Mostly all of it

CottonEyeJosephine · 06/10/2017 17:22

My Girl - Thomas J's funeral
Philadelphia - the end

Those are the main two that have always made me sob. Since having a baby though everything makes me cry, even adverts sometimes...

13Crows · 06/10/2017 17:27

Dobbys death
Dumbledores death
Snapes death
Harry's death even though I know he comes back to life

NotAgainYoda · 06/10/2017 17:28

I've gone all tibgly reading these

Saving Private Ryan - when his mother sinks to the ground on her porch as a car approaches telling her of her sons' death. Gets me every time

NotAgainYoda · 06/10/2017 17:28

tingly

NotAgainYoda · 06/10/2017 17:29

I remember going to see The Colour Purple as a teenager - I have never known an audience atmosphere like it after a film - except Schindler's List

YessicaHaircut · 06/10/2017 17:31

Edward Scissorhands:
Kim: "Hold me."
Edward: "I can't."
Gets me every time 😢

MooominMamma · 06/10/2017 17:31

My Girl - "he can't see without his glasses" . . . gets me every time.

King Kong - when they capture Kong and then again when he dies.

Les Miserables - when Jean Val Jeane is dying.

raspberrysuicide · 06/10/2017 17:34

Oh yes My Girl...
I drove home from the cinema in tears after watching that film

TopBitchoftheWitches · 06/10/2017 17:35

On the back of this thread I am currently watching Marley and me with my 12 yr old dd.

Cried already at the scene of Marley and Jennifer Aniston after her miscarriage.

NotAgainYoda · 06/10/2017 17:35

To the last episode of Friends, I'd add the last episode of ER. I loves that show. It was time for it to go but I wanted some of them to live on forever

TammySwansonTwo · 06/10/2017 17:36

Most of mine have been mentioned - especially Up (who the fuck thought that was a good way to start a kids film?!) and AI which gets me all the way through. If I ever see Beaches, I start crying as soon as she gets her first heart incident. Awful.

One hasn't been mentioned though - Somewhere In Time. That film is vicious in its emotional assault. Absolutely brutal.

Curlyshabtree · 06/10/2017 17:37

That bit in Titantic when the mum tucks her 2 kids into bed and the old couple are hugging each other in bed. Welling up just thinking about it!

Willow2017 · 06/10/2017 17:38

OH yes Highlander, when she dies, so heartbreaking.
Too many bits in the Harry Potter series to count!
The poem in 4W&AF so sad. And actually the bit where Garreth dies and Matthew is unaware.

The end of To Sir WIth Love, when the song starts chokes me up, just hearing the damm song on the radio does it too!
The final goodbye at the railway station in Brief Encounter.

lessthanBeau · 06/10/2017 18:01

Phenomenon. When she's washing his hair...
A monster calls, all of it, was bawling at the trailer in the cinema so made sure I watched that one alone.
Lassie come home(the old one) where she's all dirty and limping but still meets Joe at hometime.
City of angels when seths buying all the pears.

What dreams may come. Most of it.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 06/10/2017 18:02

I was skivingly reading this at work. Nearly got caught out because I was crying at my desk!

YY to "Daddy, Daddy" and for me it's also It's a Wonderful Life, but not the bits that have been mentioned for me it "I WANT TO LIVE AGAIN" that gets me.

BlackPepperCrab · 06/10/2017 18:04

Oh my god that scene in Grave of the Fireflies where the younger sister pretends that mudballs are meatballs because she's so hungry and then again that scene where she dies. Sad

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 06/10/2017 18:11

Beaches.

Armageddon, the daughter's face when everyone else is celebrating

Lotsofsausage · 06/10/2017 18:20

Ooh good thread! I Hate to say it but I think it's 'love actually' where Emma Thompson finds her husband's xmas gift for his mistress and she's really trying to hold it together in front if the family - brilliant acting! and the Joni Mitchell song! 'Warrior' the final scene where the song by the national kicks in .... and the final scene of 'Lion' where he is reunited with his family in India - God I cried!
Also old episodes of ER where Ray lost his legs and when Dr Greene died and somewhere over the rainbow plays.
