To feel like there are no nice curtains!

Posting here for traffic really.
I need help finiding curtains for my bedroom, needs to go with light duckegg dresser , pale grey walls, gold accents (and cream carpet).
I don't want all one colour and definitely not velvet. I don't mind floral but not "old lady" floral if that makes sense.
I have looked in john lewis, next, dunelm, laura ashley.... where else should i look?
Or what colours would you look for?
I'm beginning to feel like what i want doesn't exist! (And I can't even clearly explain what I want Confused)

This is the material I have. It doesn't look much online but my curtains look amazing.

pandarific · 06/10/2017 08:33

Anthropologie make lovely curtains if you’re looking for something light / wafty.

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 06/10/2017 08:45

Curtains really aren’t difficult to make. All you need is space and patience and then you can choose any fabric you like and save loads of money. I hired a space in a sewing cafe for a couple of hours because I CBA to clear the space at home and fend off children.

mummypleeeaaaasseeee · 06/10/2017 08:48

Ropsley
Would you be willing to post a photo?

Ropsleybunny · 06/10/2017 09:08

I would, except we are in Italy. They are really well made, I chose eyelets for the top and they hang beautifully. The material really does look stunning and I've had loads of compliments about them.

pandarific · 06/10/2017 09:16

Sigh. Oh Anthropologie. Such pretty things.

Sadly DH objects to all curtains I show him from there. Angry

What about these?

Not wafty, but not to chintzy either.

mummypleeeaaaasseeee · 06/10/2017 12:26

Thanks Saucy but nothing retro.

If i was to attend making my own , do curtains really need lining? It seems to complicate things

Don’t Dunelm offer a curtain making service? Or have I dreamt that? I’m sure I saw it Instore when I last got curtains

Ropsleybunny · 06/10/2017 13:43

Dunelm made me some curtains and the finish was awful.

Cornettoninja · 06/10/2017 13:46

Not everyone's thing but have you looked at the used ones on eBay? I find it a really good starting point if I'm not sure exactly what I want given there's such a variety and you can search by colour, size etc.

MissBabbs · 06/10/2017 13:56

You don't need to line curtains unless you have a bright street light outside or something.
Independent shops have wonderful ranges, you could go and get ideas if it's too dear to shop.
Also independent shops often have someone who can advise on style and offer suggestions if you know what you are after.

Lozmatoz · 06/10/2017 14:03

Have them made. Pick your the fabric you want first, then you can decide what style you want to. There are places everywhere that do this

MsHarry · 06/10/2017 14:11

Make them. Easy if you can sew in a straight line and SOOOOO much cheaper.

itsawonderfulworld · 06/10/2017 14:11

Have you tried Ikea? What about these?

itsawonderfulworld · 06/10/2017 14:16

Or these - maybe with tie backs in something like lilac?

MissBabbs · 07/10/2017 13:20

This website didn’t work yesterday but it seems ok today
[]www.remnantkings.co.uk/shop/voyage/voyage-partridges-winter/]]
You can order samples then give your measurements to order made to measure.
I’ve used the shop but not shopped online from them but they seem to have a huge online range.

Wooden shutters I went for. I hate curtains and can never find any I like

JJBlinks · 07/10/2017 13:36

I have just bought these from B&Q

They look much nicer in real life!!
