To buy a Teasmade?

Kelsoooo · 05/10/2017 21:43

Morning routine is this:

Anywhere between 6 and 7am I get up.
I go downstairs, get cold and cranky and wait for the kettle to boil.

Make DH and I a cup of coffee....go back upstairs and start getting ready.

Whole process takes fifteen minutes....

Now see, I could wake-up to a coffee and use that 15minutes to wake up nicely and read the news (mumsnet)

DH always has his coffee cold anyway cause I get up way before him.

So aibu to really want something that went out of fashion in the 80s (when I'm less than 30.....)

Ooo can you still buy a teasmade? What about keeping the milk cold? I am very tempted OP!

Justmuddlingalong · 05/10/2017 21:47

I use a smart plug and set it to boil the kettle just before we get up. So, the alarm goes off, I nip for a pee and the kettle's boiled ready for me to make the coffee or tea. I suppose an ordinary socket timer would work just as well and be cheaper. Brew

sourpatchkid · 05/10/2017 21:48

Do it, buy it!

Kelsoooo · 05/10/2017 21:49

You can still buy them!

Yeah but then I still have to go downstairs.... (I am ultimately very lazy, and my bed is very snuggly)

My mum bought me one going back a few years now and also a mini plug in fridge for milk to go in my bedroom (I was still a teenager!!) It use to scare the life out of me when it started going off in the morning!! Afraid to say the novelty soon wore off!

thinkfast · 05/10/2017 22:45

Nespresso machine in the bedroom? Fill up with water the night before and press button from bed?

SeparatedByMotorways · 05/10/2017 22:48

Yanbu. I have one and it is the best. Treat yo'self!

Nannyplumssillyoldelf · 05/10/2017 22:53

Wait what! A teasmade makes coffee? How do I not know this? When I was pregnant and going through the I'm so tired I can barely function phase I took the kettle upstairs and used to have a sachet of double choca mocha and a mug ready for the morning. I could then drink my only coffee of the day nice and snug in bed before having to get ready for work.

Kelsoooo · 05/10/2017 22:58

Have a Tassimo in the kitchen....at the price of the pods it's not feesible for multiple uses for both of us during the day (I'm tight as well haha)

The milk thing is an issue, but UHT mini cartons right?

Ooooh I think it will have to be done. Smug morning coffee....and then I can turn my phone off during the night and have an actual alarm clock....

Try Russel Hobbs brew and go

Davros · 05/10/2017 23:03

I've got one and loved it but got out of the habit. I must get it going again. Just take a small hug of milk up with you at night but use skimmed as it doesn't go off easily ☕️

LollyLarkin · 06/10/2017 06:14

You could take a little thermos flask of milk with you to keep it cool?

Gran22 · 06/10/2017 06:22

Thinkfast, DS likes his black coffee first thing. A Nespresso mini on his bedside table has been the answer.

LittleNoSleep · 06/10/2017 06:42

Have you seen the Heston Blumenthal Sage? Everyone raves about it. Mind you, it's only for tea. A friend of mine has a brewing-up cupboard upstairs! It's a big house though...

KatyN · 06/10/2017 06:45

We have one, in fact we've got through two through overuse. We don't use ours at the minute as it's children getting us out of bed every morning rather than a need for tea.
My parents have used one every day of their 45 year marriage, the noise of it boiling is really reminiscent of my childhood.

So dooooooo itttttttt. Kx

KatyN · 06/10/2017 06:45

Oh and milk, in this weather you'll be fine just leaving it in a cup over night. In the summer we have a small thermos that we take up.

eyebrowseyebrows · 06/10/2017 06:55

Do it!

I'm going to get a smart coffee drip brewer thing when we move house for the same reason. Programmed to come on at the same time each weekday and then at weekends I can start it via Alexa or my smart phone.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 06/10/2017 06:56

My mum used to make her coffee before bed, and keep it in the airing cupboard in a flask overnight.

FusionChefGeoff · 06/10/2017 07:02

I am living the dream right now.

Teasmaid wakes me up at 6.45 so I am snug in bed, drinking tea and MN until kids come storming in a 7.

Makes SUCH a difference to my mental health and attitude to them throughout the day.

They’re ugly as sin but hey, that’s the price you pay for an instant cuppa.

ForalltheSaints · 06/10/2017 07:05

Small kettle in the bedroom seems better. You should have a reason to get out of bed at that time.

CrabappleCake · 06/10/2017 07:06

Yabu for UHT milk.

mygorgeousmilo · 06/10/2017 07:23

Tassimo next to the bed. Sometimes I don't even sit up, I just sort of lean with my eyes half closed. The pods can be expensive but I get the x16 pods when they're 3 for £10 so that's 48 in total, lasts about three weeks. Totally worth it to make me feel like I'm in a hotel Grin

Davros · 06/10/2017 08:07

Heston' tea machine, which I have in the kitchen, can be set up and programmed to come on at a set time. I must find out how to do it Grin

Notanothergiraffe · 06/10/2017 08:57

Just looked up the Heston Sage tea maker £199ShockShock

I keep thinking about a teasmade on and off but DH usually makes my morning cuppa so it feels a bit unnecessary for the twice a month he doesn’t!
