to choose a not so gorgeous cat?

I want a cat/kitten - I could look after it well, and give loads of snuggles. I've looked at rescue cats/kittens and they are all so cute.
Years ago I met a perfectly nice woman (I thought) who had a Siamese. She told me she was driving, saw this kitten on a wall, and just took him. No, we didn't become friends.
I also met someone who stole a Burmese, and someone who stole a Bengal.
(I know some lowlifes, but they don't seem so: appear ordinary people).
My household is open - doors, windows; my cat will be an outside cat?
So, get an an unprepossessing cat? They're all gorgeous!

Our first cat we rescued it was caught in a tree in a forest. As uspca said it would get likely put to sleep after a fortnight we kept it. Just a little moggy but we loved her. I remember a woman walking past my house as I was playing with it in the garden and she said "that is the ugliest cat I've ever seen!" I felt so sad for my little cat!

Got given two strays classed as "moggies " when we were insuring them.one salty got hit y a car but the other is still going strong and is the most affectionate cat I've ever met.he is a gentle old soul!

The first cat I adopted was a slightly bad tempered adult with no tail, who'd been in there a few months.

She's a right old baggage with no balance but I love her Grin

We got our rescue cat recently. I had heard that black and white cats, adults in particular, can often be overlooked so she was an obvious choice for us!

I am a slightly crazy cat lady and love rehoming the unwanted cats. The ugly ones, or the ill ones, or the old ones, or the ones that have been there longest. I've taken a back seat with rehoming since having kids but my cats are like my second set of kids. I've got 6 rescues at the moment. The newest I only got at the start of the year, she's 14 and on her road out with a bunch of health problems. Of course no one wanted her. But I've given her a lovely comfy warm home to see out her days. The ones no one else wants are often the loveliest!

All cats are gorgeous.
I saw a sad Facebook post from the CP National Cat adoption centre where visitors had made some nasty comments about some of the cats; one was described as being on death's door, another was said to look like a witch's cat and another someone wouldn't home as she had sad eyes.

I don't know if you live near battersea dog and cat home but I saw on twitter they were advertising a gorgeous elderly cat that had been there for years and was just overlooked. I have had 2 b&w male rescue adult. Cats - on my second and they are really hard to rehome. Harry had and Alfie does have a gorgeous temprement and bonus didn't need litter training and never goes far. Go for an older cat, they will be so grateful.

This is an "undesirable" black, adult rescue cat.
How beautiful is he?

I love black cats and black and white. I have 4 cats and the black one is gorgeous. He is sitting on my knee now Smile

You've made my evening Grin

FeedMeAndTellMeImPretty · 05/10/2017 22:54

I looked at lots of cats and discounted two beautiful rag dolls because I knew someone else would take them in a heart beat. I just wanted regular characterful moggies. I've had pedigrees before, but tbh I didn't get anything more from them, except higher insurance bills and a fear of having them stolen!

In the end I chose two rescue cats, one of which the lady said not to bother with as he would just hiss at you. I felt sorry for him getting overlooked, and his buddy who was really friendly - as they came as a bonded pair, they would both end up not being rehomed because of his anti-social mate.

Turns out hissing cat is actually just really shy and jumpy and can be lovely and sweet once she trusts you. Yes, they also got the sex wrong, he's a she!

There are so many lovely cats just waiting for a loving home.

I always champion rescue cats and particularly the ones who've suffered the indignity of being passed by, bless them.

Strangely, the most aloof and undemonstrative cats who come across as grumpy, gruff and even unpleasant, do give back when you love them and those weird relationships are often the most rewarding. It's so easy to melt at cute, but they all bring their own gifts to the relationship.

Beautiful cats! I have bought dreamies this afternoon for my classroom cat. She visits me when I’m marking after the kids have gone home- she’s really skinny and doesn’t have a collar. She’s black from nose to tail.
(Our cleaners have agreed to feed her during the holidays)

Fiona1984 · 05/10/2017 22:57

Part of me wants another black cat just because I think it would look cool, but I'll probably end up with something totally random.
I'm really drawn to a pair of young black and white toms I've seen online at a local rescue. One is missing an eye.

Mrsknackered · 05/10/2017 22:59

YABU for those reasons. But my friend has a rescue cat (she was left to die) and she has a Cleft lip. She's the loveliest cat and has the sweetest little face.

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 05/10/2017 23:01

There is no such thing as a not so gorgeous cat. They are all gorgeous. They also have the right to roam because that is what they choose to do. Let them be cats. Don't keep them in a gilded cage. Run free my floofs.

Blogwoman · 05/10/2017 23:02

What gorgeous cats! I didn't know black ones were harder to rehome... I have a friend who always asks for the cat that's hardest to rehome, usually old, & they have brought each other much pleasure.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 05/10/2017 23:09

I have 3 gorgeous indoor cats and all cats are gorgeous apart from those bald ones that look like they have been turned inside out but each to their own.

Many years ago a very mangey black and white Tom cat was visiting our garden. We fed him, gained his trust, and eventually we were able to get him to a vet. He needed nursing back to health as he had cat flu and was full of fleas, but he turned out to be the most loving cat, he used to climb up my chest and sleep with his head under my chin, purring away. Tramp ended his days with us, much loved and well-fed.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/10/2017 23:13

There's no such thing as an ungorgeos cat.

Ankleswingers · 05/10/2017 23:17

DMRAT.

Your cat is beautiful- identical to my parents 9 year old gorgeous boy.

MaidenMotherCrone · 05/10/2017 23:47

Here you are, she's a handful but you can have her for 37p (no returns).

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/10/2017 23:55

Maiden, She's just adorable. She's so long. Grin

ElizaDontlittle · 06/10/2017 00:03

My neighbour's old boy was hit by a car in one of his past lives. His poor face is all wonky and he has one eye. He really is the most ugly cat - but with the sweetest of temperaments. My two always complain about him hanging around - but he's always got a purr and a head bump for me! Love him!

BertieBotts · 06/10/2017 00:04

I love moggies, I think they are much cuter IMO and more beautiful than pedigree cats!
