AIBU to not let my 13 year old watch Game of Thrones?

She’s 13, loves dragons and fantasy stuff and is desperate to watch GoT (needless to say “all” her friends watch it Hmm).

I think she’s too young for at least another year.

What age have you let your children watch this kind of thing? I recall watching 18 certificate things younger than 18 myself. (It was American Werewolf in London and I was terrified).

I'm always rather disturbed by the fact that people come on and say "It's fine, I watched X rated movies when I was 10 and I'm ok" hmm Erm no you're not, you've now clearly got a warped sense of what is and is not appropriate for children to be exposed to.

God yes the Reek storyline made me feel physically ill. Plenty of scenes that have played on my mind after the programme. I think it is great but absolutely not for a 13yr old, no matter how mature they are. The dragon/fantasy part is a small part of the programme imo.

Very inappropriate. 16 at least...

My 13 year old watches all sorts. But GoT is definitely a step too far!

BitchQueen90 · 05/10/2017 20:27

No, the violence and gore wouldn't concern me as much as the violent sex stuff and the way women are treated. 13 is a very impressionable age.

Coffeetasteslikeshit · 05/10/2017 20:32

I won't let my 13 yo watch it, and won't even consider it for at least 2 more years, at which point I'll decide depending on maturity.

You say you’ve watched it yourself op. You therefore know that it is in no way suitable for a 13yo.
