DH won't name DD a name we love because he had a rabbit with that name!?!?

He's BU? Surely? We both love a name, but as he had a rabbit with that name when he lived alone, he doesn't want to use it, WTF?

Weird name for a rabbit, though.

Ironically not in the book at all, just in the cartoon version.

Ninjakittysmells · 04/10/2017 23:45

I was named after my dads first car Grin

Staple25 · 04/10/2017 23:49

Erm how odd. He does love it... Says it's his favourite name but wouldn't want to use it because Of the rabbit that died 5 years ago.

Pascall "Our rabbit was called Casserole."

Actually I love Cassidy. (Similar!)

IClavdivs · 04/10/2017 23:52

I worked with someone who claimed that he named his daughter after his childhood pet kangaroo - and, no, she wasn't called Skippy.

CakeOffBakeOff · 04/10/2017 23:54

It's just mean to call a child Bigwig. I know its Violet really

I think for a dead rabbit it's a bit unreasonable - but people have strong name associations that can lead to irrational behaviour.

A friend of mine once refused to date a man that she really liked and was really attracted to and really liked her because he had the same name as her brother. She said she'd never be able to get passed the association at the ...er ... crucial moment.

You have to tell us now, or I'll think Cortina

My DS shares a name with one of the most evil cats I ever met. We loved the name, the cat is long forgotten and his name is just him.

MrsFezziwig · 04/10/2017 23:56

Flopsy, Mopsy or Cottontail?

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 04/10/2017 23:58

Violet is a gorgeous name, HIBU.

On a thread not so long ago a few people admitted to naming their children after their dead dogs Shock so I wouldn’t say a rabbit was a big deal Grin

I couldn't have a DC that had the same name as a pet either (and our pets have - mostly! - had pretty sensible names)

There are so so many lovely names out there, why do you need to duplicate?

steff13 · 05/10/2017 00:06

From Watership Down

My mom said I couldn't read/watch Watership Down because it was too upsetting.

e1y1 · 05/10/2017 00:50

I agree with your husband, I wouldn’t name a child the same name as a pet (previous or not).

Is there not another, better name you both love?

e1y1 · 05/10/2017 00:52

I agree Olennas, 2 of my 3 pets have names that would be perfect human names, but I still wouldn’t.

SuperBeagle · 05/10/2017 01:00

I also wouldn't use a name that had previously been used on a pet.

Sometimes that means you don't get to use names you love. That's life. I loved Lucy, but had a dog for 16 years named Lucy, so it was never going to be a consideration for a child.

He's not being unreasonable.

yolofish · 05/10/2017 01:06

My parents named a cat after one of their grandchildren. I thought that was quite odd.

GreenPolishToGo · 05/10/2017 01:10

I wanted to give DD a middle name that we'd already given to the cat. DH said I couldn't because we weren't naming her after any relations. I said I liked the cat much better than the relations. But he said they'd probably guess that if we gave her the cat's name.

So we didn't. But DD quite fancies using it for any daughter she might have one day. Grin

Cantseethewoods · 05/10/2017 01:32

I really liked Otto but our NDN ( non cf) had a cat called Otto so DH said 'it'll always be a cat's name to me.' It was the most beautiful cat though.

Subtlecheese · 05/10/2017 02:33

Same reason I couldn't take to my exes first choice of name.

CommanderDaisy · 05/10/2017 06:14

YABU. Pick something else. If nothing else your daughter might be a bit...Hmm having been name after a pet rabbit anyway later on. I know I would be.

Ilovetolurk · 05/10/2017 06:21

My DD was named after my pet hamster

Two decades on family friends delight in reminding me
