AIBU?

To be shocked at the lack of security around the Prime Minister?

Just watched TM giving her conference speech this afternoon. This thread is NOT about the politics or personalities, Labour, Tories and so on. Was anybody else surprised that a prankster managed to get into the hall, walk right up to the podium and stand there for quite a while trying to hand TM a joke P45? Where was her security? Does the Prime Minuster (whoever it might be) not deserve to be protected?

I thought this too- poor TM. how on earth could someone get so close to the PM doing a key speech without getting bundled hard onto the floor as a potential attacker?

Nothing to wory about...We're not that lucky! - before anyone complains BOJOs comments were worse and he's foreign secretary!

Better let him stand there. Remember the elderly chap savagely bundled out of the other gang's conference in Blair's time? That really did a lot for their image, didn't it?

It was fucking hilarious, and brilliantly highlighted what an absolute shambles this ‘government’ is. Can’t be a bad thing.

He could well have joined the Tory party just to get into this conference. And most of the audience wouldn't really have a clue who he was.

Yes I agree, it was really awful. Everyone was so British dealing with it too.

Shocking, I agree. He could've given her a nasty paper cut or anything.

If Boris has any honor left in him now, he should leave politics. Grin
I don't like May and Rudd at all and I think they are some of the top people of their party to lead them to this state of affairs. However, I applaud Rudd for her pulling that man-child to his feet. And May for persisting no matter what. In a way, I feel sorry for her. Tories are pushing her so hard with a chronic health condition. She gained some respect in my eyes for this.

I dont think it was that bad. Security should have stopped the silly prank and the letters falling off was unfortunate (Id be more pissed off about that than P45 man if I were the PM). The cough can't be helped. It was a series of minor calamities, but she just kept going.

No. But there's have been plenty of security in the first place when people were vetted before being allowed in, so there would have been no weapons etc. They don't just let any old riffraff through you know Wink

I think the pause was possibly because the security mistakenly thought she was being passed an urgent message or something (not completely out the realms in these days) before realising it was a prank.

What's the chronic health condition? Genuine question.

Yeah I think some people are being a bit OTT about this. He had the necessary credentials required for entry and would have gone through security with everyone else. He couldn't have had a gun or weapon. He could and did have a piece of paper.

Makes no difference. Her personal protection team should have stopped it. They didn't and there will be questions to answer.

May has Type 1 diabetes

Ah yes thankyou Piglet. I forgot about that.

He will have been being watched very closely by her security and had he made any move to attack her rather than hand her a piece of paper then he would have been bundled or worse. We are very lucky to live in a democracy where actually our politicians are not kept away from the people.

Sorry...I just watched it and howled with laughter. Especially his comment of “Boris, job done mate”Grin

Did feel a bit sorry for her having to talk with that bloody cold though.

But the only people who (should) give the PM a piece of paper that says "N Korea and Trump have both pushed their red buttons" are people who are well known to her security detail. So any stranger shouldn't be able to get that close to her, particularly when she is stood on a stage like that.

I agree, I'm glad that our politicians aren't completely cocooned away from the general public, but what if he had decided to punch her or otherwise physically harm her?

I felt sorry for her. Especially the media furore around the cough. She rallied on and should be respected for that.

I'm not a fan of her personally or any of them really but I actually felt a bit sorry for her. The cough was just unfortunate & bad timing & could have happened to anyone. The guy with the P45 was a total dick & completely unfunny and vetted/searched or not on the way in, should never have been able to get that close to her or any of the Cabinet; security was far too lax in getting him out. She persisted though, and got through it but I'm sure she was glad when it was over. It was quite a personal speech and she did finally seem to understand her mistake and show some humility over the election result, and accept we don't have a 'country that works for everyone' but whether it's just lip service only time will tell

Well he wasn't a physical danger to her, and I just thought he looked like a twat TBH. Comedian? Nah. As funny as Dawn French the other night i.e not at all.
I really felt for her with the uncontrollable tickly cough - I've been in that position myself and it was beyond awful. The more you try and suppress it, the worse it gets.

I don't know what the heck is wrong with me Hmm.

I momentarily felt sorry for her but then I remembered all the really sick and disabled people screwed over by her government's policy and I was able to harden my heart against the lady with a slight cough.

He's the one that ran on stage during the X factor isn't he? He's a knob, his TV show was the most diabolical thing I've ever seen.

As I said on the other thread, I did feel sorry for her, as much as I fucking hate the Tories. I get a nervous cough too, it was horrendous in exams or assemblies - let alone addressing the country. But then she said that the reason why she was prime minister was to tackle mental health inequalities, and Grenfell etc.

And I just thought - you fucking liar. And my pity dissipated.

No sympathy here. I reserve that for people who are actually struggling - the people who get no sympathy or support from the Tories. Not someone with a cold, a shit security team and a set that's falling apart.
