To ask if you had any signs before you went into labour?

I'm 38+4 and desperately want out now!
I think it's wishful thinking, but today my cats have been clingier than they ever usually are, following me around. I'm also developing a blocked nose and funny feeling eyes. Absolutely shattered aswell.
Could they be signs that it's getting near??
Did you have any signs (however weird!) before you went into labour?

OP posts:
AFlibbertigibbet · 04/10/2017 17:34

Both times the sign was a Midwife and/or Doctor starting the induction process!

Fingers crossed that baby arrives sooner rather than later. It all gets a bit tedious at this point, but completely worth the wait!

Fuckoffee · 04/10/2017 17:51

With my first I had a weird urge to clean the cutlery drawer. I got irrationally upset that there were bits in the slots. I went into (latent) labour about an hour later. The cutlery drawer has never bothered me before or since Grin

With my second I just knew it was going to happen the next day. I went to bed knowing I would be giving birth the next day. I presume my brain recognised something was happening but there were no physical signs I was aware of. And it wasn't the case that I'd thought that for the last few days. I was convinced I would go to nearly 42 weeks like my dd. My ds was early at 41+1!!

Hang in there OP the last few weeks seem to last forever don't they. Good luck x

Gunpowder · 04/10/2017 17:57

Day of labour I always want to do weird cleaning (the skirting boards behind the bed, that kind of thing). I also get weepy and want to stay at home.

Holz657 · 04/10/2017 18:02

I peed about 10x more. I also had that cliche burst of energy.

Tiddlywinks63 · 04/10/2017 18:09

DC1 37 weeks, spent morning cleaning house from top to bottom. Waters broke lunchtime, went to hospital but nothing happened until 21.30, baby born 23.00hrs!
DC2 36 weeks, waters broke 14.45, labour started 01.00, born 01.35. Very fast and painful 😱

OriginalRhubarbGin · 04/10/2017 18:11

With my first labour I had what I thought were strong Braxton Hicks for two days before my waters went and full labour started (looking back they were probably latent labour contractions). And with my second I just woke up with contractions coming 3 mins apart.

Strokethefurrywall · 04/10/2017 18:27

Aside from near constant, painless BH for weeks prior, I found that I couldn't walk my regular 4 mile walk with the dog the night before, and woke with diarrhea at 4am the next morning, so the typical "clear out" I guess.

But nothing obviously with DS2 I don't think.

Sallystyle · 04/10/2017 18:32

Just one big show very soon before the contractions started.

I go from nothing to giving birth in just over an hour. I got the big show then contractions. Great births, terrible pregnancies.

Ohwell14 · 04/10/2017 18:36

Nothing...but did have contractions for 2 days

SquidgeyMidgey · 04/10/2017 18:48

Evil lower back pain like a migraine in my pelvis (back to back birth, nice).

sarebear1983 · 04/10/2017 18:59

Woke up really early, full of energy. After cooking a chilli at 8.30am (determined to get things moving as I was 41+3 haha) I got just normal back ache, went to sit down and heard and felt a big pop. It's a good job my Pyjama bottoms had cuffs on the bottom because they filled up like parachute pants! Made it up to the bathroom just before they gave way haha! DS was born the next morning

Danceswithwarthogs · 04/10/2017 19:32

First - no warning, woke up in night waters broke/5 min contractions (tho had gone to bed a bit early as feeling a bit queasy - 40+5)

Second - 3 nights of practice labour, lasing few hours then settling down, before real thing. Baby was back to back tho - 40+2)

Tbh you're more likely to go overdue, maybe try to mentally prepare for that, then a slightly earlier arrival will be a pleasant surprise if you get it Smile

Persemillion · 04/10/2017 19:58

I felt very tired and uneasy, got in the shower, always makes me feel better, but when I was living the bathroom waters broken.

Sorry to say but I had mine 3 weeks after where you are now.
Period pains were the sign that it had started. Good luck :)

Mumof217 · 04/10/2017 20:11

The day i went into labour i had this weird feeling that i just needed to be at home and not go far. My oh wanted us to go out for lunch etc but i just didnt want to and then that evening my waters went

TooGood2BeFalse · 04/10/2017 20:15

I woke up at 3am with the most explosive derriere. Followed by irregular contractions.

EdmundCleverClogs · 04/10/2017 20:15

Plug went same day the midwife booked me in for an induction, in four days from that appointment. Spent the whole of the next four days in pre-labour, on and off contracts, right up to the early morning of my induction day. Things started to pick up, went to the hospital at about 4am, only for it to slow right down again. Was very grumpy and frustrated by that point. Was sent home and told to come back by about lunch - as soon as I walked through the door at home, I promptly threw up like something out of a horror film. He was born (without induction!) a few hours later.

TellMeIAmBonkers · 04/10/2017 20:18

I was very very sleepy for a few days before. Kept having to take naps. DD was born on due date.

SuziePink · 04/10/2017 20:23

39+2 passed a big bit of mucous but no blood
39+3 had mild backache and felt really uncomfortable in my pelvis (like lots of pressure and needing to wee all the time)
39+4 still had backache, had vague period type pains which got worse when I moved. Baked an apple cake which was very tasty.
39+5 woke up at 4am because I was so uncomfortable but couldn't get back to sleep, didn't feel like eating at all and whenever I tried I threw it all back up, including water in the end. Pain got worse but no discernible pattern so had a bath at about 2pm. Decided to try out TENS machine at 3pm and started timing the contractions (finally twigged that's what the pain was) at 4pm. Contractions were every 5 minutes by 5pm but hospital said to phone back when they were every 3 minutes. Phoned back at 5:45 to say they were now every 2 minutes, got to hospital at 6:30pm and was 7cm dilated, waters broke at 7:55 and son born at 8pm!

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 04/10/2017 20:25

My waters went a long time before I went into labour and I didn’t even know. Only the contraction seven hours later told me something was starting.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 04/10/2017 20:26

Explosive derrière? Please tell me you went to the hospital when your buttocks exploded.

ememem84 · 04/10/2017 20:30

Felt really uncomfortable and had a very squiffy tummy. Then contractions started at around 11am. By 2pm waters broke. 230pm went to hospital. When midwife examined me at 330 I was 10cm. Baby boy arrived at 7pm.

TooGood2BeFalse · 04/10/2017 20:34

tomorrow I obviously meant I had bad diarrhea. Sorry if that wasn't clear.Nice use of the accent though.

Gramgram · 04/10/2017 20:38

DD no signs, I was actually in hospital with a suspect urine infection when my waters broke. I was fully dilated and it was a rush to get me to the labour ward. I took them by surprise.

DS in hospital with high blood pressure. They were going to let me go home, quick internal said the consultant and we'll probably start you off on Monday. Didn't go home, I was 5 cms dilated. Surprised them yet again. I hadn't felt any contractions either time.
