To travel with toddler when pregnant

My in-laws have been telling DH that he should be going with us and now they've appealed directly to me. He does not want to go and I don't mind travelling alone (actually quite like it). They've often raised this when we've traveled before but now I'll be travelling at 17-18 weeks pregnant they are even more concerned.

DH doesn't like to travel and I often find it an extra hassle to travel with him especially if anything goes wrong (delays/overcrowding) as he grumbles/gets grumpy. We're going down to stay with my mum and it will be a 9 hour journey mostly on one train (2 changes but they are for local trains at each end). On the way back up we'll be staying with friends and family so more journeys but shorter.

We will be travelling light as my mum and friends have most things we need.

DS is 2 and a half and has traveled with me by train lots and is (mostly) fine with plenty to entertain him and snacks on the way.

So is it wrong of me to think I can travel with him whilst pregnant without DH to support me? Any advice on what to say to in-laws when they call tomorrow?

Hmm

They're nuts. It's just so weird! Why wouldn't you travel?!

It sounds fine to me! Perfect time to do it - post first trimester (yuk) and before you're exhausted with a huge bump. Enjoy the trip (and ignore you PIL)

Sorry missed the bit on advice - I'd just say thanks for the concern, but you'll be fine! That you've done it before, are fully prepared and are looking forward to it.

People are so strange about travelling with kids! You will be fine, as long as you feel well and have lots of snacks, toys, surprise little gifts etc. (And lovely people to hand toddler to at the other end so you can have a cup of tea in silence!)

Though I did once have an experience on a virgin train where my toddler pressed the nice shiny door buttons whilst I was on the loo and the whole door slid open on to a packed vestibule....

Thanks for the reassurance.

Looked for this thread on my Kindle when I went to bed and couldn't find it. Became convinced I'd accidentally posted it to Facebook!

Can you get a cheap flight instead?

Currently 38 weeks so going to the supermarket with my 2 year old is hard enough work for me nowadays. At 18 weeks no problem though, assuming you’re fine with it obviously!

My in laws would probably be the same. Fussing about my 2 year old sitting on my knee when I was in first trimester etc. Some people just like to fuss! just tell them you’re fine and get on with it.
