Does anyone else get totally peed off with not being able to have anything nice?!

Come home from work and one of the nice tall tumblers I bought in a set of 4 less than a year ago that I have repeatedly asked the kids aged 15-20 not to use has been broken, my 15 yr old DS informs me.

All glasses kept on a a high shelf in the glass cupboard so not the first one to hand but because they all fucking hoard have glasses in their rooms it was probably one of the only options left other than washing one or emptying the dishwasher.

If I ever get all the kids and 3 step kids out of the way to actually invite anyone over I don't have a set of plates that match or any plate that isn't chipped and I did have a beautiful canteen of cutlery with 8 settings but a few years ago 2 of the forks mysteriously disappeared and no one knew anything about it (suspect younger children of chucking them in the bin!).

Nice tefal frying pans get used and if they manage to not use metal in them they don't wash them up properly and use them again burning or the reminants of the previous meal.

Does anyone else feel my pain? No amount of asking nicely and fucking nagging seems to penetrate and I don't have room to keep a "nice" set of everything separate.

I expected this with toddlers but by now I thought I would have "nice" stuff.

Every time they empty the dishwasher it sounds like they are trying to smash all the plates into the brand new kitchen cupboards.

Sad

Absolutely. "And that's why we can't have nice things," I have been known to grumble to my DH about the kids every time they break something FOR NO GOOD REASON! As in, they should never have had it in the first place. Grrrrr.

Yes "please don't use those glasses on that shelf - they were slightly more expensive than the others" Angry

I can't have nice things. My toddler isn't the problem, I'm so bloody clumsy myself! I maily eat off of my son's plastic toddler plates!

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/10/2017 17:35

DD is six and knows that if she breaks something or spills something or loses something, she has to make it right. Buy a new one from her savings or clean up or whatever. What are the kids going to do to make this up? Because that's a life skill.

Eh, I don't really care that much. I get quite cheap but nice crockery from IKEA, Wilkos, Sainsburys etc. All white so it all matches and if enough of them get chips in I replace all bowls at once or all plates etc.

My favourite glasses are Nutella jars Blush If they break it's no biggie as long as you eat another jar of Nutella...! They're the perfect size for a small drink.

RedForFilth · 03/10/2017 17:41

BayLeaves yes to the Nutella jars! It's like a treat when one breaks because you have to finish a jar!

I feel like this often OP

Sigh - sometimes I just want to have a house like the ones in dramas on the TV.
