Neighbours spreading rumours - how do I stop them?

Back story told as briefly as possible, could be outing but not really fussed...
Had a young woman renting house next to me. Not particularly nice, loud arguments with partner/s, child would get sworn at a lot, loads of cars, friends talking loudly in garden until late at night. I put up with it as realise that this is part of sharing terraced housing and have far too busy a life to get my knickers in a twist.
One day I hear loud screams at the front of the house and run out to see NDN screaming as her partner's dog has another neighbour's puppy in its mouth and is shaking it vigorously. Long story short I get puppy free and rush it and distraught owner into my house. Puppy survived, dog owners understandably livid. NDN Offered to pay vet bills but then refused when they reached £7000! I passed landlord details on to the dog owner (who also lives on same road) as NDN is not allowed pets in the first place.
Fast forward to 18 months later. NDN Moved out, new family in now. Noticed another neighbour who shall be known as Crazy Cat Lady (CCL) has been giving me the evil eye and once gave me the finger when I waved to her! She had a row with another neighbour who I am friendly with and started screaming about how much she hates me because I got someone evicted! Further investigation by friendly neighbour has revealed that other people in the street have heard that I got the people with the dangerous dog evicted.
I am frankly baffled as to how this rumour got started and am deeply offended that it seemed to be being repeated as fact when I had absolutely nothing to do with the family leaving and don't even think they got evicted!
Saving the dog was pretty much the only time I've had much interaction with any neighbours as I work shifts, have children and an active family life. What I would like to know is how I should go about squashing this rumour and setting people straight. Part of me thinks I should just ignore it and take the high road but I am rather upset that people are somehow looking down on me or thinking I am a bad person for doing something I am innocent of,especially so long after the event.
Thanks for reading if you managed to get through all that!

Concentrate on friendly neighbours and give 'neutral' neighbours a friendly greeting. If cat lady keeps this up it might be worth a solicitor's letter explaining the penalties for slander.
On the other hand 'knowing' you get people evicted might be keeping a lid on antisocial behaviour in your road!

I'm sort of flattered that anyone would think I have any kind of power at all, let alone the ability to get someone evicted!

‘I passed landlord details on to the dog owner (who also lives on same road) as NDN is not allowed pets in the first place.’

Well that probably started the eviction process and got them into hot water with landlord as they discovered the contract breach.

Not saying that you shouldn’t have done that though, just that you may have helped to trigger proceedings

Honestly I wouldn’t care about the neighbors and just move on. They sound like trash, and they obviously don’t believe that the dog incident was that serious or realise that their neighbors breeched the contract by having the dog anyway

I did wonder if that might have had something to do with the rumour starting but on the day they moved out they were chatting quite happily with the landlord and there certainly didn't seem to be any animosity between them so I am not entirely convinced they were evicted at all! Think I will try to rise above it all and leave CCL to her own devices unless she decides to up the ante, in which case I may have to unleash the beast...
