AIBU - Do I see the GP for piles?

I've never had piles before - do I go to the GP? It is HUGE (well it feels that way). Its sticking out (prolapsed?) about 1 cm and about 2cm long. I'm using cream but it doesn't seem to be shrinking. How long do I leave it? Or do I need to see the GP? Sitting down is so painful!!! If I don't need the GP any tips on how to deal with it?

Yes.

Get a referral and get it sorted (quick outpatient procedure). Best thing I ever did. Smile

Ditch the cream - you need suppositories (they are available off the shelf). The cream does nothing imo other than offer a few seconds reprieve from the agony. With suppositories you should feel immediate relief and could be back to normal in a couple of days (definitely see GP if not though).

Yes do. When I was pregnant with DS I had awful piles. After I gave birth I thought I'd need an operation to fix them - even the midwife said they were some of the biggest she'd seen! They did go away by themselves eventually. GP prescribed me some cream called Scheriproct which was sooo much more effective than the over the counter stuff I'd been using previously.

Recommend moist toilet paper too. It's not good for the environment and you're not supposed to flush it but it's much gentler on them than normal loo roll!

Def see the doctor or had some incredibly painful outbreaks with pregnancy, after 3rd baby I had the op to remove and all good! Then got preg with 4th and the pain was truly awful. Schreproct is good. If you need immediate pain relif put some ice on the area in a sandwich bag and lie on your side. Have a warm bath first and follow with ice a few times a day will help shrink it. Instead if loo paper use a jug of warm soapy water and pat dry.

Definitely go to the GP asap!

From family experience the only cream that has any affect at all is the anusol with hydrocortisone in - it says '4 way action' on the box, the hydrocortisone has a shrinking action. Don't buy the regular anusol with '3 way action' on the box because it doesn't have any hydrocortisone in.

You poor thing, it's vile!
