To think that headaches every day isn't normal?

Every day after lunch I get a headache that lasts until late evening. I eat a range of lunches so don't think it's related to food. I also drink lots of water. Would it be unreasonable to make a GP appointment over this? Painkillers sort it out but I don't take them more than a couple of days a week. I have the contraceptive implant if that makes a difference.

When did you last have an eye test?

Hassled · 01/10/2017 20:36

When did you last get your eyes tested? And are you looking at a screen a lot for work or anything?

Cornettoninja · 01/10/2017 20:37

i would book in with the opticians first if it's not debilitating. If nothing else you'll be able to flag up a clear eye health history when you do see the GP.

Screwinthetuna · 01/10/2017 20:38

It's typical of tension headaches to come back every afternoon like that. Do they go away in the evening when you are relaxing?

FrancesHaHa · 01/10/2017 20:38

Yes, I would see the GP - that's not normal. Only times I've experienced that have been when pregnant, not getting enough sleep or when I was on the pill. Switched to the mini pill and headaches went.

Also sometimes get headaches if I leave it too long between meals, so eat lunch really late.

Have you had an eye test? If not maybe try that first.

FrancesHaHa · 01/10/2017 20:39

Sorry, x post with lots of people about eye test!

charlyn · 01/10/2017 20:39

My dh has been going through the same thing where he was getting a headache every seat single day always starting after lunch. After nearly 4 weeks of it he went to the gp and found out he had very high blood pressure. Hes been on tablets for 3 weeks now and there's been a big improvement where hes only had the odd one. Definitely go see your gp.

FittonTower · 01/10/2017 20:41

I had that, went to the GP who did some blood tests and I was found to be deficient in some vitamins and stuff. Currently being tested for coeliacs. Get it checked out, there might be an explanation

sortingmyselfoutslowly · 01/10/2017 20:47

I hadn't considered an eye test! Will book one. I use a laptop for work but not all day and work part time. I look at my phone a few times a day but not for long periods. I'm a morning person so feel best in the morning and my energy really drains in the afternoon so I dread that time of day now with the headaches too. Thanks for replies, I'll make a routine GP appt

Check your posture too, especially while on the phone

sortingmyselfoutslowly · 01/10/2017 20:49

Screwtuna yes they usually go away on the evening when I finally sit down and relax. Tonight it's still a dull ache do I'm off to bed in a bit.

Could be muscle tension causing them.

Sadly a daily headache does affect some people. I had a permanent headache a few years ago - lasted around 3 months. Was crap and exhausting. No apparent cause.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 01/10/2017 20:53

Mine are postural. Monday and Tuesday is generally fine. By Wed my neck is tight. By Thurs I'm in pain. Fridays are often the worst.

Check you're not hunching or unduly bent over.

Also, dehydration?

PurplePillowCase · 01/10/2017 20:57

yes to eyes, posture and dehydration.
eye test first.
then if good posture -do you have a proper desk/keyboard/mouse/screen?

if headache then persists, see your gp.
