I'm a fussy eater, I admit it. Sometimes I ask for something to be left off my order. I am not talking re-design the chef's expert dishes, I mean "burger, no mayo please".
A list of recent events which have lead me to a minor level of frustration and this post-
English breakfast, menu did not say beans (hooray!) arrived with beans on (which I hate) because "all fry ups have beans"
Asked for burger without mayo. No mayo. Came with burger sauce on which was not mentioned anywhere on the menu.
Asked for salad wrap without balsamic dressing. Came with mayo on.
If the menus had beans, mayo etc listed, then I could ask if they can be left off.

some dishes have maybe 10/20 ingredients, if a menu had every item listed the menu would be as big as war and peace in some places, if theres an ingredient you dont like ask the waiter or waitress if the dish contains it in any way, they can either go ask or tell you if they know, i dont like beans with brekkie so i always say, full breakfast no beans, and peppers always ask if they are in dishes, so i can avoid if possible

Gileswithachainsaw · 30/09/2017 18:54

I don't think you are U actually

Im.not particularly fussy but when it comes to things like sauces or dressings or added extras like pickles etc I'd like to know.

Textmergency · 30/09/2017 18:55

I think it’s probably not practical in reality, but I would but would quite like it too. I find it really frustrating when menus say things like ‘with seasonal vegetables’ because it’s so vague!

Gileswithachainsaw · 30/09/2017 18:55

I think sauces and dressings should he served separately anyway I mean salads get soggy if left too long and nothing worse than cheap overly vinegary dressings all over it.

Tazerface · 30/09/2017 18:56

YANBU.

I'm not really that fussy at all, but there are things I don't like. For example, I like mayo but I ordered a salad once and it came with squeezy mayo all over it - just too much.

All they need to do is have a separate sheet with all the listed ingredients, and I suspect most of them do, for allergen reasons.

tiredbutFINE · 30/09/2017 19:07

To be fair I don't mean a full list of everything. But if a brekkie is described as sausage, egg, mushrooms, fried tomato, toast why can't they add beans! or a burger is listed as brioche bun, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo why not list burger sauce as well!

Just ask for any sauce on the side

Ellendegeneres · 30/09/2017 19:15

I'd like it too. I get it's not practical, but I have one ingredient I can't eat without throwing up, so have to specify everywhere I go that my order has none. Think very common ingredient put in most foods.
Did have a good experience though, sat down in a Mexican place in bluewater, ordered drinks and starters then went to order main. Checked that there was no x in it, they brought out a special sheet with allergens on them with every dish. Every dish bar none had the thing I can't eat. I was gutted. Manager felt so bad for me (I'm sure he could hear my stomach rumbling!) told us to finish our drinks and my partner the starter, they were on the restaurant. Very nice of them. Wish everywhere had that list

dementedpixie · 30/09/2017 19:15

Just ask for no sauces rather than specifying just one

StrawberrySquash · 30/09/2017 20:32

Yes, it's really annoying as you can't tell what the dish is about. Loathe the stupid fashion for listing three ingredients with no conjunctions and no indication of how the dish is cooked. And then the price with no £ sign and no proper pence listed.
e. g. carrots, ricotta, lemon, 6
What have you done with them, roasted/grated/mashed?

RidiculousDiversion · 30/09/2017 20:40

Me, too. I'm allergic to parsley and it's in bloody everything but rarely mentioned on the menu.

Loopytiles · 30/09/2017 20:42

YABU about the fry up: beans are frequently served.

YANBU about the burger and wrap. Did you send them back?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 30/09/2017 20:45

This ^

BestIsWest · 30/09/2017 20:46

Yes, having just had a chicken casserole with tarragon in, I agree. I can't stand tarragon, it spoiled the whole meal.

BonnieBlueButler · 30/09/2017 21:55

I agree. I hate peas. Ordered a cheesy pasta dish which came with peas. No mention on the menu of peas. Ruined!

BigChocFrenzy · 01/10/2017 08:05

When I don't know the restaurant, I now say
"no butter, no sauces, dips, ketchup except .. " < the one listed that I want >
Oh and "no parsley"

nellytheelephant21 · 01/10/2017 08:13

I agree. I am allergic to a lot of things and have to pick very carefully from menus; it's a pita when, surprise, one of the things is used, often as a garnish, on a dish where you wouldn't expect it.

missarcher · 01/10/2017 09:03

@Ellendegeneres you'll find that most places would if you actually asked to see it

WaxyBean · 01/10/2017 10:55

I sent back a dish with smoked salmon in - the menu said salmon. I like salmon but hate smoked salmon. I am sure the restaurant thought I was being unreasonable.

LadyWire · 01/10/2017 12:15

My (ASD) DD has a limited diet. One thing she loves is tuna sandwiches/tuna melts. The number of times she's had a meltdown because there's been onion in it is now check anywhere need that it's onion-free. Went to a café a few months back and was assured no onion in the tuna baguettes. Ordered one each and when they came they had bloody paprika in! Who the fuck puts paprika in tuna mayo?!

LadyWire · 01/10/2017 12:21

I've also just remembered the first time I went out for breakfast with DP. I'm also ASD and although I like beans I can't have them touching anything else on my plate because they alter the texture. I'm veggie too.

So we go to Morrisons café and they've changed the menu so instead of ordering a veggie breakfast I had to order a normal breakfast with substitutions. This threw me and I forgot to mention no beans. Started to get agitated. DP asks me what's the matter and I blurt out that I won't be able to eat anything because beans will have touched everything. We'd only been together a month and instead of fleeing immediately he went to the counter and asked for my beans to be brought in a separate dish - I knew then he was a keeper 😂😂😂

Kentnurse2015 · 01/10/2017 12:24

Oh god yes. I'm not particularly fussy but absolutely hate balsamic with a passion. Whenever I get something that has balsamic drizzled over and no mention of it it makes me so annoyed! Literally ruins the food!
