People who apply body spray on public transport

I personally really don't like it and think it's antisocial and impolite, as it impacts directly on other passengers.

AIBU?? Or am I just a grumpy old git?

I hate it. There's someone in my office that does it, and whoever it is doesn't just spray and go, they must spray each pit for ten seconds? I don't get it.

It's disgusting. I'm sitting maybe 30 feet away and I still get so much of it up my nose I almost always get an instant headache.

showergel1 · 30/09/2017 17:51

Spray is awful but I've used a spritz once or twice when sat near smelly people.

MoiMocheetMechant · 30/09/2017 17:52

Yep that's it Tazer - I just find it so bloody annoying. I don't mind perfume so much (especially the really expensive stuff, as it mostly smells incredible 😂) but body spray is vile. Can't people just wash?? (What actually is the point of body spray?)

Schools don't allow this as it can trigger asthma attacks, should be the same on public transport

NotCornflakes · 30/09/2017 17:54

I think it is so rude to do this too. So YANBU! I'm always tempted to start coughing theatrically when someone does this but so far have been too chicken.

Nochecita · 30/09/2017 17:55

Just a grumpy old git Grin maybe they are doing it around youse coz you are the smelly one..

MoiMocheetMechant · 30/09/2017 17:57

Haaa do it Cornflakes 😂😂 - I'll join you! Together, we can start a solidarity movement for disgruntled and downtrodden passengers everywhere.

I have never once seen this happen. Surely it isn't a thing?

PaintingByNumbers · 30/09/2017 18:08

Happens in my office, triggers my asthma, is shit and antisocial

JonnaSilvie · 30/09/2017 18:11

I gave my Year 10s a right telling off for this the other day. NO sprays in my classroom at all, I have severe asthma, and I spent the next ten mins of the lesson coughing like crazy because two of them thought I wasn't serious when I gave the first warning and they carried on Sad

MoiMocheetMechant · 30/09/2017 18:14

That's awful Jonna - sorry :( (I had a Year 10 form group once, and they can be soooo difficult - I definitely sympathise :()

Any kind of personal grooming in public is horrible and that includes make-up

DonkeyPunch88 · 30/09/2017 18:28

I have a friend who is very asthmatic and just a short spray of deodorant or perfume near him sets him off really badly so yes, I agree, antisocial and for some people probably quite dangerous.

SusanTheGentle · 30/09/2017 18:46

I can't deal with sprays of anything - no medical issue, I just can't abide breathing whatever it is in, it makes me feel ill and anxious. I can't even let my husband spray deodorant in the same room as me and don't use any myself. It's not the smell, though I understand other people dislike that too.

Anyway spraying on public transport is awful.

MrJohnsonAteMyCustard · 30/09/2017 19:01

I agree - anti social and downright rude. Yes, public transport is bad enough, but how about in a cafe? Have had that several times and simply can't comprehend how anyone would that that was appropriate.

Oh and brushing hair at the table, too Hmm

MrJohnsonAteMyCustard · 30/09/2017 19:01

*would think

AnnieOH1 · 30/09/2017 19:03

I'm afraid I always used to carry either a deep perfume (think dolce Vita or no.5) and a dress scarf; smelly people wind me up so much. I'm not talking about ill health, I'm talking about people who don't seem to be bothered with that little thing called soap.

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 30/09/2017 19:39

I'm quite allergic to most perfumes and aftershaves. Even walking past someone wearing too much can set off my asthma! Body spray isn't so much of an issue for me, but in a small space would probably make me a bit wheezy. People who spray anything like that in confined spaces are really inconsiderate!

Cornettoninja · 30/09/2017 19:52

Yanbu.

I've never done it (prefer to keep my grooming to the bathroom like civilised people do Wink) but never used to really mind other people spraying a bit.

Now I've ended up in a cramped 'open' office with eight women who spray some noxious stuff all day everyday I think it's really obnoxious and rude.

I've always loved a nice smell, but it's very subjective isn't it? Not to mention it's generally a pretty potent mixture in enclosed spaces. Even if the soap dodger on public transport scenario doesn't excuse it - open a window, move, breathe into your sleeve whatever, no need to make everyone breathe your smell preference. Vanilla and bo still isn't a nice smell.

EggysMom · 30/09/2017 19:55

There are people in my office who do this and, when I grumble, they say "Surely it's preferable to smelling sweat". That's not the point. We have perfectly serviceable toilet areas where a person can go to spray, and then return to the desk. What is with this trend to spray when in public?
