AIBU to complain about the table at a restaurant?

Came to a restaurant at 6:30, when it was almost completely empty. Waiter showed me a table just in the middle of the restaurant and I just picked another and sat down. Then waiter came back and told that I should sit to the table he showed, because the table I now sit is in a more reserved silent corner and I can't sit there with my child. I did as he told and moved, but then became angry as I thought and complained to another waiter saying this rule is a bit rude, especially when it's empty and my 4year old behaves nicely. So they apologized and let me sit wherever I want but now I feel bad because the first waiter seemed to be a bit offended and I guess he was scolded by the manager. Was i being unreasonable?

I've noticed that groups of young attractive people get seated in prominent tables and those consisting of less attractive or older people get seated behind the pillar or by the accessible toilets....

to PPs who don't understand why they are seated in certain places - we have to anticipate any number of people arriving after you. In my restaurant there are only two areas that seat wheelchairs/pushchairs and large parties And that is fair enough. I think most people can understand that. But that wasn't the case here. They were basically saying no you can't have the better seats because we have customers we value more. Which, if we are talking about rudeness is pretty rude.

Peng - yes. You sound like you think ignorant means to ignore people. It doesn't. And it's ignorant to think that.

scallops yes I wasn't talking about the OP then, I was referring specifically to people who started anecdotes about how they've been seated in terrible places or don't understand why they can't sit anywhere they like.

Unicorn you must work in an absolutely huge restaurant or have geriatric waiters, if the few seconds exta time it takes to wait on a far table is a problem. Does that mean when the restaurant is full and the far tables are in use your diners have an interminably long wait?
Recently our party of 5 adults arrived at an established restaurant here we'd booked several weeks earlier. The restaurant had only 4 tables occupied. We were led past many large empty tables to an area at the back of the restaurant where the only other occupants were a family with 5 small very noisy children. The waiter attempted to pull together 3 small tables of differing sizes and heights. When I told her it "wouldn't work" that we'd be cramped and uncomfortable she looked helpless. I suggested we went back to the front of the restaurant (where we usually dined) where there were many suitable tables. She was none too pleased but agreed. Only two other parties arrived after us and both left when they discovered how long we'd been waiting to be served ( but that's another story) -- management later apologised and offered free food and drinks in compensation.

Ahh OK. Understand. Sorry Unihorn Smile

Benedikte2 not currently, but I've previously worked in a 370 cover, 2 floor restaurant if that makes a difference Hmm Even in my smaller restaurant 200 cover restaurant - my servers have 8 table sections. They will go to each table at least 8 times. If they spend an extra 30 seconds per trip they are adding 4 minutes to a guest's experience. This is 32 wasted minutes of their time. 4 minutes to every table through a day would make us lose a table turn. So yes, it does make a difference, to profit and efficiency.
