In my circle 5 babies have been born this year. All the mums are in a relationship or married. Two of the the babies have reflux,Both their mums are perfectionists in general and have eating/weight issues. The babies are being breast fed so I wondered if there is a connection

What are you talking about op? You sound deranged!

No there's no link. They may need their determination to get the right help for their little ones who have reflux though as GPs and health visitors don't always realise how serious it can be. A few days ago we finally had our "urgent" appointment with the paeds consultant (took 11 weeks from referral) and not only were we finally listened to, my lb was diagnosed with GORD on top of his confirmed CMPA and prescribed two medications that might actually help (the things the GP could give us were ineffective). Hopefully this means he will now be able to eat better and not be constantly on the brink of dehydration. Your friends will probably need someone to offload to when they are always cleaning up sick Wink

I have 4 DC only one had reflux...

TheseAreTheDays · 30/09/2017 21:53

Both my kids had reflux, for no apparent reason. Both were breastfed til about 15 months, one was off reflux meds at 9 moths the other on them til nearly 2 years old. I'mean certainly not a perfectionist, I have never had any problems with reflux/heartburn myself, both babies were born full term, neither were section and both were relatively trouble free pregnancies and births. So most common "theories" for reflux don't apply in either case. Try again!!

TheseAreTheDays · 30/09/2017 22:01

Also not sure what it has to do with anything but I was,and still am,married to the same man for both pregnancies and births.

And neither child has any intolerances, neither was I on any antibiotics during either pregnancy (another common theory!) By the way regardless of the possibly well meant errors in your post I genuinely would love to know if there is a cause for reflux so I could avoid it if I ever had a third child. Hearing your child scream in agony for hours on end day and night, choke on milk hours after their last feed, and hiccup day and night while squirming in pain, is not something I would repeat if I had any control over the matter.

Also no eating/weight issues here. Sorry I realise I'm over involved in this thread but genuinely if I thought anything I did or did not do had caused this then I would change anything at all to avoid putting another (hypothetical!) child through this.

I hope the women in your circle are quick to cut you out.
