To think this is very bad form?!

I have just arrived at a lovely spa hotel for my 40th bday, so we are treating ourselves. It is very family friendly and despite numerous phone calls to check whether I needed to bring stuff I was reassured again and again that all was provided including a cot. However, we have just arrived and the cot has no mattress, but they have folded a towel and put a folded sheet (for a double bed) on top of the towel! All loose at the bottom of the cot. I have complained to reception but I don't think they see the problem. AIBU? My baby is only 7 months old and rolling and rolling so would get tangled up in no time! And it can't be breathable!

They can't give you a cot without a mattress! They wouldn't do that for people sleeping on a bed - why should a baby have to put up with it!

acquiescence · 29/09/2017 17:16

Very bad, unsafe, they need to sort it out. Did you ask them to organise a different cot/mattress and they said no?

TittyGolightly · 29/09/2017 17:16

Is it a cot or a travel cot?

CottonSock · 29/09/2017 17:17

Fairly normal unfortunately. I'd bed it out with blankets and towels wrapped under

Gazelda · 29/09/2017 17:18

I’d be demanding to speak to the manager! How can they imagine it’s acceptable for one of their guests to sleep on a folded towel and over-sized sheet instead of a mattress?

hidinginthenightgarden · 29/09/2017 17:18

Bad form is not the right phrase. It is a health and safety risk! I would tell them you need a cot mattress or will have to leave.

CottonSock · 29/09/2017 17:19

I always take a fitted cot sheet for this purpose.. although these days I pack a sleepyhead which fits well in travel cot

gunsandbanjos · 29/09/2017 17:20

That’s dreadful, definitely ask to speak to the many

gunsandbanjos · 29/09/2017 17:20

*manager

TroelsLovesSquinkies · 29/09/2017 17:28

Not safe at all. I'd be in the reception kicking up a fuss.

Given the majority of travel cots don't come with proper mattresses, you're being ridiculous.

thatdearoctopus · 29/09/2017 17:46

a) this is not a travel cot (I presume, as the OP hasn't said that), and b) even if it was, there would be the standard (thin) mattress in one of those which, although not luxurious, is at least functional.

InvisibleKittenAttack · 29/09/2017 17:48

A travel cot isn't the same as a proper cot - it's like saying a camping roll mat is ok for a guest to find in their room instead of a bed with a mattress.

Kick up a fuss, then if they can't provide a cot (not a travel cot that is basically the same as a camping roll mat), ask for a full refund and leave. Just not worth it.

ElizabethShaw · 29/09/2017 17:51

Even travel cots have a mattress/padded base.

tippz · 29/09/2017 17:54

Travel cots don't come with mattresses.

tippz · 29/09/2017 17:55

Just google it. They don't have mattresses.

NotTheCoolMum · 29/09/2017 17:59

Travel cots don't come with thick mattresses like a normal cot. But they do come with a padded bottom part which is performing the job of a mattress! What's with the confusion on this thread?

Travel cots are safe. Unlike folded towels!

TakeMe2Insanity · 29/09/2017 18:00

Stayed in lots of hotels with baby dc.

Normally a travel cot is provided with a thin mattress. On occasions it has been provided with a thicker mattress. Very rarely are we provided with a proper cot and thick mattress. Always with bedding firmly tucked in. Towel on the side yes. Quite frequently with a baby amenities kit and toy.

museumum · 29/09/2017 18:08

Travel cots are fine. They have a base which has a tiny amount of padding which is enough for a light Child.
Many people buy additional mattresses to put on top of this (we didn’t) but I wouldn’t want to use one of these in a hotel for hygiene reasons I’d rather just put ds on a sheet on the travel cot base.
