AIBU to think I may have (or have had) PTSD?

This might sound absolutely crazy, but AIBU to think this could be a possibility?

I had a fucking awful experience with a teacher training course last year, and also was given the news whilst on the course that another trainee had taken their own life (also brought back memories of another very close friend doing the same several years ago).

I ended up resigning from the course, and have been extremely stressed and depressed since then (and during the time I was doing the teacher training).

I now feel so so much better than I did last year, largely thanks to the help of very supportive family and amazing NHS support (CBT counselling and a careers counsellor), but still feel a bit lost and confused.

I've had online CBT counselling for a few months so far, and have now been referred to face-to-face counselling, which I feel will be much more suitable and helpful.

I've got my first face-to-face counselling session arranged for next week. Would it be wise to bring this up with the counsellor, or should I just leave it?

Sure bring it up! They'll be able to do a diagnostic assessment to see if you have symptoms of PTSD. Bear in mind that it's possible to still struggle with a past event and felt anxiety/depression from it without it being PTSD, sometimes you're just having a normal response to a trauma that isn't PTSD. But definitely mention you have your suspicions about it and it'll help them help you faster.

You should definitely bring up what happened.

Generally PTSD would be diagnosed after a traumatic experience when people are exhibiting PTSD symptoms. Who cares about the label, you're entitled to your response to a stressful situation.

Thanks very much Kity and Alice.
