Fish sushi pack, bought from Aldi Tuesday evening. Sell by 28th Sept.

What do you think?

I would but I like to live dangerously Smile

Wheresmytaco · 29/09/2017 11:09

Snack things like that are pretty much gone off by their sell by date ime. Would give it a miss

InappropriateGavels · 29/09/2017 11:10

Does it smell like it's about to grow legs, start a vast army and take over the world?

If not, then I'd probably eat it for I too like to live dangerously.

I can't be doing with all that bull where people chuck stuff away just because it's a few hours past its date. I've eaten stuff a week past the date because it smelt fine. I'm alive to tell the tale.

Caulkheadupnorf · 29/09/2017 11:12

I would

Bumblebeesss · 29/09/2017 11:14

What makes sashimi-grade fish safe for consumption is the fact that they're kept frozen at sub 20 degree temperatures before sale to kill off parasites. Most of the sushi/sashimi places here require you to consume them on the day itself, so personally, I wouldn't eat something that has been kept for a while.

I would but then again I don't subscribe to the popular Mumsnet notion that things 10mins out of their eat-by-date will cause me to shit out my internal organs.

KarateKitten · 29/09/2017 11:16

I'm sure it's fine but supermarket sushi is very very shit. Doesn't even taste like sushi should.

ladypie21 · 29/09/2017 11:16

I would, supermarket sushi is normally cooked fish. If it was raw I wouldn't chance it though

Somerville · 29/09/2017 11:18

No. Well, not without cooking it, which rather defeats the purpose.
I'm entirely blasé about dates generally - I trust my nose. But not when it's raw.

Hiphopopotamus · 29/09/2017 11:19

Supermarkets can't sell raw sushi so you'll be fine

rightsofwomen · 29/09/2017 20:02

I didn't risk it. Bought a fresh pack from Boots.

Kitten I'm travelling to China and Hong Kong for work next month and I expect their sushi is better than it is here. Meanwhile, I'm quite happy with my Aldi fix!

Sushi with a use by/sell by date that long isn't raw fish for future ref

DeadGood · 29/09/2017 20:07

Please stop buying your sushi from chemists and supermarkets if you have the choice! Urgh, it's awful. Even Wasabi is better than that stuff Smile

rightsofwomen · 29/09/2017 20:40

Dead, I don't have the choice. I live rurally.
I wouldn't eat it if I didn't like it. I'm no sushi expert, I just like how this tastes.

I know it isn't raw fish, I still get a little antsy with any seafood and meat really.

Fair enough rights 🍣

KarateKitten · 30/09/2017 17:34

Sushi is not what I'd be eating in China or Hong Kong either to be honest. So jealous you're going! The local food is fab, I'd never have thought to eat sushi there. Have a great time!

HardcoreLadyType · 30/09/2017 17:42

Isn't it the rice that's a problem? Food poisoning from rice can make you very ill, and re-heating it (not that you would with sushi) doesn't actually make it safer to eat.

SisyphusHadItEasy · 30/09/2017 17:44

When in doubt, always eat the sushi.

You will either have a happy sushi-filled stomach, or one helluva cautionary tale to share with others Grin
