That's it really - signed up as someone offering to walk/dog sit as I'm home during the days and fancied some canine company and the excuse to get out and have a walk.

Sent a few messages etc (am an experienced dog owner - just can't have one at this time) but zilch back... it's a scam isn't it Smile I was conned into a subscription by those lovely waggy tailed photos on Facebook ads

@Llamacorn, the Cinnamon Trust is nationwide – they're just based in Cornwall and flag their most urgent cases online, so it's possible they have people in need wherever you are!

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 29/09/2017 15:50

Whoops @Llamacorn, realised you're looking for someone to walk your gorgeous dog! But yes, it's possible they have volunteers near you. I wish I was close by!

Llamacorn · 29/09/2017 15:58

Thanks threedrinks I wasn't sure they could help as it said they were an England/wales charity, but it might be worthwhile me emailing them to see.
I take it that it's not just elderly people they help?

PoisonousSmurf · 29/09/2017 15:59

I've never had a dog of my own, but I do have experience of relatives dogs and friends dogs. Before I get my own (when the kids fly the nest), I'd like to be able to walk some. But because I've never had MY own dog, people seem to think that I won't know how to handle one.
So difficult to get started.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 29/09/2017 16:03

I'm not too sure @Llamacorn, but it's worth getting in touch to ask them. Hope you find someone to help out!

I'm near Falkirk, so Fife would be a bit far... Awww... :(

Goingslowlymad1 · 29/09/2017 20:13

@llamacorn- awww am tempted to move just to walk her Smile what a beauty!

@poison would you maybe consider helping out at a shelter?

I've emailed first borrower who on paper would be an ideal match.

I am planning to email one person every 3-4 days to give them a chance to respond. I'll let you know what is the response rate and what will come out of it.

FlakeBook · 30/09/2017 08:08

The rubbish bit about bmd is that you pay up...but the other person has to have paid to see the message.

Runssometimes · 30/09/2017 08:59

We had our dog on it and must have met five people. Most walk a few times and never message again. So we left as I don't think it's good for my dog, who still wash and tries to go into some of the houses he stayed at. We wanted it for the odd weekend when we are out for the day but can't bring him, or during the week on the days we usually have a dog walker but equally we can bring the dog to work, bit sometimes it's so busy he doesn't get the best walk.

Overall we found borrowers very enthusiastic at first and then they faded away.

Wags not wash

SoupDragon · 30/09/2017 10:24

Perhaps we should set up "Mumsnet My Doggy" :)

antimatter · 01/10/2017 00:34

First borrower already has a dog to look after and is very busy, so I shall contact next one.

Gubbins · 01/10/2017 04:16

Bonnevacance, that's exactly the sort of set up we want for our lovely greyhound. We can walk her, but there are two days a week when we're out and she'd love to have someone to curl up on a sofa with. We're SE London too.

stripysleeves · 01/10/2017 09:55

I joined as a walker just two days ago, and have already agreed to meet someone with their dog next week.

I only contacted the premium members.

antimatter · 01/10/2017 17:34

I am only contacting premium members too.

stripysleeves · 01/10/2017 17:51

Oh that's unfortunate! I contacted two and the owner of a lovely looking lurcher contacted us back.

(DP has lots of experience with lurchers, we know how nuts they can be!)

How many are there in your area? How far are you looking?

InTheRoseGarden · 01/10/2017 17:54

Maybe you should try posting on nextdoor?

amousehaseatenmypaddlingpool · 01/10/2017 18:48

We used it whilst I was a SAHM. Lovely dog came to see us and hang out in the wood once a week. Had to stop when I went back full time. He was great for DS's confidence.

antimatter · 02/10/2017 23:27

2 out of 5 borrowers I contacted replied. I hope I'll get to meet them soon!
