(Light hearted btw!!)

Random, but is it just me who finds this a bit ridiculous?

I had an invitation earlier today from a colleague for a housewarming they're having. The address (I kid you not) is 'The Small House, X town, X county....'

Out of sheer nosiness, I Googled 'the Small House' earlier, expecting to find a lovely cosy little cottage on a tiny street in a picturesque village.

Except the Small House in question is in fact a bloody great mansion of a house, with more than five bedrooms and bathrooms, huuuuge kitchen, a conservatory, home office and massive garden Shock Envy (and an envy face added in for good measure).

This is a good thread. There's a (tiny) place next door called The Mansion.

Out of nosiness, when you're sending something to someone with a numbered street address, do you also include the house name? Like Clover Cottage, 53 Ordinary Street etc. I tend to ignore the House name but now wonder whether that's likely to annoy the people who live there.

I liked the story on here of the MNer who built a new house in the garden of her current house (I think it might have been some kind of conversion). She asked MNers to think of some names and ended up with "The Spare House" - I do hope they called it that!

A relative used to live in a house in Wales called Ty Madryn, named after the port of Madryn in Welsh speaking Patagonia.

CruCru,
I always use both. If it is an established house name, many people may not be aware of its number.
If it is a new house name, many people may not be aware of its name!
So, I use both

My friend used to live at a house called Ionta. The previous owners had a toddler whose favourite phrase was "I want a" but they couldn't quite say it so it came out "I ont a".

My mum once bought a house in North Yorkshire which had been newly converted from an old Victorian workhouse/orphanage. She named it Bumbles!
