To think this could be crohns?

I started with a migraine last Wednesday and ever since then have been hit with stomach cramps (Which are like labour contractions and I feel like fainting) and feeling nauseous. I am going to the toilet a lot (Diorohea) and generally feeling wiped out.
I am starting to think it is something more serious as I keep getting pain when I either drink milk or eat wheat. I fit a lot of the crohns description. AIBU in being very worried?

Well the only way to know is to see a doctor.

Any reason other than google you wouldn't just think it was a virus?

BarbarianMum · 27/09/2017 15:48

Crohns is a lifelong, chronic condition. It can develop at any time, so yes it could be that but I'm puzzled as to why you are jumping to this as an answer when you've only been ill a few days. Confused

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 27/09/2017 15:53

I have crohn's and yes it does feel like that but doesn't usually come from nowhere. Any blood in your stool?

AlmostAJillSandwich · 27/09/2017 15:53

Any change in bowel habits should be discussed with a doctor, but if you've had no symptoms til a week ago it's not likely to be crohns.

It is more than likely you have a virus, if you had crohns you'd know about it, you'd have blood/pus/mucus in your stool regularly as well as constant loose stools (not just for a week).

Danceswithwarthogs · 27/09/2017 15:54

Probably at least 50 other things it could (crohns quite a long way down the list btw)

The bowel issues could follow from the migraines (tummy migraines for eg) or both could be linked with a virus/infection/food reaction/food poisoning (esp if fairly sudden onset)

I'd see your doctor (real one, not Doctor google)

My son has severe ulcerative colitis and it started out of the blue one day. He had never had any signs of it previously.
Had a tummy bug, but then it 'changed' to a constant need to sit on the loo, bloody diarrhoea and after a while pus/discharge.
He had terrible stomach pain too.
But he was seen at A&E twice, and repeated calls to GP surgery and was constantly told it was a tummy bug.
Eventually I was seen by a different GP who took one look at him and sent us to hospital with a strongly worded letter that said we weren't to be discharged.
All the tests for Crohns/colitis came back negative!Confused
It wasn't until he was hospitalised that the bloods showed anything apparently (cannot believe this as he was at deaths door by that stage!). So be prepared to keep pushing for help.
We tried gluten free, fasting for 24hrs, cutting out dairy...everything, whilst he was ill at home. But it made no difference. After 10 days he started vomiting. This became progressively worse, he would eat ( he was starving!) and minutes later he would vomit the whole lot up.
He had a thing called tenesmus, which occurs with it. A constant and urgent need to go to the loo, although noting would come out. He spent hours just sitting on the loo, night and day, and became very distressed if he had to get off the loo.
I know this is a bit rambly but that is what his symptoms were. Came out of no where too.
Who have you seen and what have they said?

Cornettoninja · 27/09/2017 16:01

As A1sharons post illustrates, bowel issues aren't easy to diagnose and I think, unfortunately, can take a while to even be investigated properly in the young. It's a case of gathering evidence or finding nothing.

Go to your GP and have the discussion. If it is a recurrent problem then at least you've started to document it.

Aquamarine1029 · 27/09/2017 16:08

It could also be your gall bladder. Get to the gp.

JustAnotherUser123456 · 27/09/2017 16:09

My BIL has Chrons. It took until he was 35 to get a diagnosis after a lifetime of pain and bowel problems. In the end the diagnosis was because he was blue lighted to hospital in the middle of the night and nearly died on the operating table.

I don't think Chrons would be the natural assumption for the symptoms you describe.

dollydaydream114 · 27/09/2017 16:15

Sounds more like a virus or food poisoning to me. Very similar to how I felt when I had the campylobacter bug, actually - cramps, migraine, exhaustion and the shits, on and off for about three weeks.

I certainly don't think Crohn's is the most likely cause. Or even in the top fifty most likely causes.

PollyFlint · 27/09/2017 16:20

Agree with dollydaydream that your symptoms sound a lot like campylobacter. If it is, you might feel rotten on and off for quite a while, but it will run its course. Your GP could confirm either way, if you provide them with a small poo sample.

RainbowPastel · 27/09/2017 16:21

You are jumping the gun. I was full of mouth ulcers and was treated for food poisoningalso blood and mucus all the time. You will need an endoscopy to diagnose it.

Sienna333 · 27/09/2017 16:35

Thanks all. Prior to this my stomach has been sore and reacting weirdly to simple drinks like tea. I have also noticed mucus in my stools.
I have a doctor phobia due to childhood experiences but I have to work up the nerve to go I know.
